1933 unearthed!
This past weekend I finally uncovered my '33 Essex Terraplane that has been in storage since I bought it in 1980, and before that it was stored in a barn since the early 1940's....Still completely untouched, I now have it in my home garage. where I will extensively photograph it, and evaluate what needs to be done (everything!) and proceed from there.I first spotted and attempted to purchase this vintage Hudson when I was 17,in 1970,and I am now approaching 60, so it's time to enjoy! Who is the '33 guru on this forum, I am sure I will need plenty of help/advice/parts! Thanks, Scott

Scott-
Wow! That's awesome! I'm sure you are aware of the rarity of '33's, seeing as how you have had it so long. Speaking of which, what took you so long??
Please feel free to share the pics, I'm sure there are a lot of us that would like to see more of the old girl. Looks great from what we can see so far.0 -
WOW.....unbelievable potential....and awesome starting point!!!!
I love the grill, the louvers, and the suicide doors!!!!
I'm really looking forward to seeing the progress and process unfold.
You'll have plenty of support on the forum....where are you located....you could probably get some volunteer help when you need it!!!
Best luck,
Lee0 -
Wonderful car!! Are you a member of the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club? If not, send me your snail mail address and I will send you a copy of our award-winning magazine, the White Triangle News. HETfortyqtpi@earthlink.net (drop the HET):cheer:0

What part of the country do you live in? There's always a chance that someone with a nice '33 lives near you and would be willing to let you crawl all over it with your notebook and camera. If you're an HET member you could check the national roster to see where the nearest '33 is.0

Very nice car Scott! Thanks sharing that with us. Seeing it now, it seems that we were there with you 40 years ago! A two time barn find! Michel.0

Nice car!
Let me be the first to make a request. Can I see a picture of the rear fender supports? Both where it connects to the frame/body, and where it attaches to the fender.:)0 -

Thanks for the encouragement! I am near Syracuse, NY and have an old Hudson friend nearby who has a restored '33 he may bring over this weekend! My '33 is like finding it for the first time, I still have yet to go thru the interior and under the back seat to see what artifacts I might find.,,,,Thanks for the HET offer Sam, but I've been a loyal member since '73,when I first found out about the club.I will post more pics as time allows, here's a few more now. This car has been out of sight for me as I have been restoring Hornets, and lately, Javelins and AMX's.I am currently finishing up a '71 AMX (the year I graduated HS)And then I will focus on the '33, that I wanted so bad back in '71,lol....

Too cool! I too started out with American Motors and have progressed back to Essex.
Hope you'll share your trials and tribulations here, and I for one would love to see your AMC adventures...
Below is the Hurst AMX I started with at Indy in 75. It still exists as a race car today.0 -
sure a nice solid looking T6, and a coach which is a rather rare body style as most were sedans.
I've owned approx. 6 T8s & T6s, have a lot of photos but when I sold my last one sold all my parts so could help you with a info but not parts but it looks to be very complete. The hood ornament looks to be perfect, hope you have the crankhole cover which is not in the grille in the photo?0 -
The Terraplane Handbook, by Graefen, has been available through K-GAP for probably 20-25 years. I would expect you would have bought one over that time. If not and they have run out, contact me. It covers '33 with the greatest depth of info for any year.0

Its sort of "Round 2" of barn finds now- cars that came out of barns in the 60's and 70's and were stored by the new owner, then life (or perhaps, reality) got in the way and they never "got" to them, so now they come out again (often in estate situations, unfortunately).
I had a '59 Corvette I bought in the '70's under wraps for about 30 years, finally read the handwriting on the wall (and the obscene amount someone was willing to pay) and sold it.
I remember helping a college friend drag home a nice '30 Chrysler coupe in about 1968- he drove the pull rig, I steered the Chrysler- used a big ole rope- its still in an old garage, and although he and his dad have done a little on it over the years, its still not running.
Wonder how many are getting done the second time around?0 -
