Just spent $775 for polishing/repair of my grille related stainless and $450 for the RENU process on my gas tank. Whew! At least its cheaper than the '56 vette...

It DOES seem a little high on the RENU. I paid $350 2 years ago for my last one.

Yep, I had a '59 Vette- among other projects- started working on it, and soon decided that my best bet was to sell the Vette for an obscene price, and use the money for my other, more reasonable, projects. It was clear that I couldn't run with that crowd.

So I did. Have never regretted it. It went to a dreamer who then passed it on to a "doer"- He has it completely restored, and its gorgeous. I see it several times a year at local shows.

The two words "obscene price" and the early straight axel 'vettes go hand in hand. I had a '61 and sold it for the same reason.
The only cars that may be crazier are the "woodies". I had a '49 Ford that I let go to a TV producer in California a few years back. I mean, you couldn't leave it alone at a car show without worrying about someone stealing the goodies off of it. I'm still playing with some of that $$$:)...slim

I'm there with you folks. I have my shop queen that seldom sees the light of day. My daily driver now is a 76 MGB (all original). Not much you can do to hurt one of those. I am also working on a hot rod right now. Good thing about a hot rod is you can pick up parts and work on it as time goes on...

I have sold more than one project because the cost of restoration is no longer an option on a fixed income. Good thing maintenance is an acceptable option...

The guy who did the RENU job told me that the price of the material to line the tank has gone up three times over the last several years and is now several times more expensive than ten years ago. Most services I've dealt with in my restoration are charging $70 an hour, and they all tell me business is generally good.
