Disc Brake Kits
Hello all,
I picked up a 50 pacemaker a few months ago and jusst been driving it around. Looking to do some work on it over the winter. I see a bunch of old posts on various sites on disc brake conversions. Not looking to by the overpriced Kanter and other kits. There were some that modified the the original hubs but does not appear that anyone is still doing this. Does anyone have any current info on these kits?
Thanks
BSW

I don't know about labuds, but I have dealt with Richard on a couple of occaisions - great guy, excellent parts and very willing to help if you have any questions.0

I just spoke with Richard Pridemore at Pigeon Forge last weekend. His "kit" uses the OE hubs, and late model discs, calipers, and hoses. I plan to use his kit on my truck in the near future.
I know quite a few others who have used it and are happy, price seems good too.

What is the price. Thanks. Lee0 -
If I understood correctly, he basically sells the parts list, caliber brackets, and instructions for$160. You need buy the rotors, calipers, and hoses locally. He designed the brackets and aside from a slight mod to the hubs, its a bolt in operation.
I think he will kit the whole set as well, or provide modified hubs.
I figure pull a part might have calipers, but hoses and rotors I'll buy new.0 -
any pictures??0

I bought my Pridemore kit over 3 years ago.
I got hubs, caliper brackets, master cylinder bracket and grade 8 hardware to mount it with. The rest I picked up locally.
I just got it mocked up.
Life gets in the way sometime.
Here are a few pictures of it,I hope.

thanks for sharing those photos.
the master cylinder bracket does it keep the master underneath the car?what master does it require?please share as much information as possible--please & thank you.chuck
I'm still in the planning & rounding up parts stage..:whistle:0 -
Chpperchuck,
I do not know anything about the Pridemore kit but that machined hub in the pics looks awesome. For custom disc brake setups, a common aftermarket setup is for Granada Rotors (aka Mustang II I believe). Often its with GM calipers. Perhaps someone who sells a generic aftermarket MII kit would have some good insight on a mechanical Master cylinder size (non booster) thats a good match for the Calipers included in thier kit and we can all figure out the m/c bore vs. the caliper piston size relationship for a good pedal feel and adequate stopping power. Ive been looking into a custom setup as well and there is alot of reading to do to get compatible parts. my .020 -
Chopperchuck and Volksheime,
The bracket for M/C keeps it under for the floor.
It's late 70's GM I don't know if it the same one as Richard is using now.
I'm going to power brakes using hydroboost from Astro van mounted on firewall. The hubs I have use standard stepdown bearings and seals.
The calipers are GM metric from Auto Zone for about $30 each without core
$10 with core to turn in.
Richard is best source of info on what is now available.

cool,
id like to see pics of your booster install. 30 bucks for calipers, doesnt get much better than that!0 -
Very interested in that booster install as well. What years work for this conversion?0
-
With Richards disc setup,,,I used a MC and booster from a 95 astro/Safari van along with the PS pump. The pedal assembly works perfectly when mounted to the firewall with no mods.Just drill the holes and mount it. I did make a reinforcement bracket to prevent firewall flexing. That will give you The hydraulic power if you decide to go to Power steering.0

pictures would be really nice 'cause i'm kinda of a moron when it comes to mentally visualizing thing thing that i haven't seen up close & personal,& how would you do a power steering conversion? W/stock frame..???

I could not get the list to attach on forums so I e-mailed it to Super Dave. Maybe he can get it to load on the forums.
This is the LaBuds parts list. He made the caliper brackets, So you will have to figure that out Your self.
