Curious, I also bought this off e-bay. Anyone know anything about these? Niels

  • Niels, These commerative coins were used by Hudson dealers as a give-away celebrating the 40 years of Hudson existance. They were used in 1949 as a means to generate business much the same way matchbooks, letter openers, fans and any other give-aways were meant to do. It's a nice piece of Hudson memorabilia.

I have a photo in my collection that would go nicely with your 40 year coin; it shows a 1949 convertible with "40th Anniversary 1909-1949" over "3,200,000 Hudson Cars" in the foreground with a 1909 in the background.

You can access the photo @ http://groups.msn.com/HudsonMotorCarCompany/_whatsnew.msnw

Click on Miscelleanous Hudson Photos and go to page 5 - the photo is near the bottom of the page, right after the famous (or infamous) "topless" photo. Feel free to download it if you wish.

I've bought about 4 of these things when I see them for a good price. One of them is M.I.N.T with hardly a mark on it and came in a nicely wrapped coin holder!

Since I'm going custom I've been trying to think of a way to incorporate one (or more) of these medallions inside the 49 - I haven't come up with a good idea yet...

There are quite a few of these extant. I also have a brass coin-on one side it reads "Good Work Today, Hudson 1940 spring campaign. On the other it reads "Good Luck Tomorrow - Hudson" and has an engraving of the front end of a '40. If I knew how to post a photo of it on this site, I would. LOL
