1933 Terraplane windshield advice

I am looking to have my '33 Essex Terraplane windshield frame re-plated and new glass replacement.Mine frame appears solid, but the plating has rusted away.I haven't taken it apart yet, so it may be worse! Does anyone have experience with this? I have heard horror stories of how the platers ruined the W/S frame. Also, is this the same windshield used in all the enclosed Hudsons for that year? Is '32 the same? Does anyone a nice used one for sale or trade? Thanks for any help!

in re one area of your questions, the conv. windshield is much lower than the others which I believe are all the same so you need to tell us which body style you have.
Yes, one must be careful in choosing a plater as the frame metal not very thick & if badly pitted, the could buff thru the metal!
The windshield frame from a '32 E-T might work, not sure, but definitely not from a Hudson which is much larger.
Your best bet would be to find a good replateable replacement IF you can find one that anyone is willing to part with!
I'm not sure how easy or practical it would be to have a metal shaper make you a new one from steel then have it plated, probably cost more than finding a useable one!

Scott - I too have a '33 ET that I'm going to have to do something about the W/S frame as we took it to a local Auto Glass firm to have the glass replaced. Told them to be careful with the "unions" between the halves of the frame because no one was making any more of them, and of course they proceeded to brake both of them. Hedley Bennet of London Ontario advised me to contact Bayer's Machine Works of Bloomville OH for a replacement frame. It seems they are capable of reproducing w/s frames for our cars. Walt here, lee, you should jump in and tell him where to get a new frame. You can tell him to have it rechromed will just ruin it.

My car is a Coach. I would rather put the rechroming money into a new fabrication, I certainly don't want to pay to have my W/S ruined.....Jerry,maybe we could order at the same time, may get a better deal with quantity? Anyone else in need of this hard to find part?

They had my old 34T coupe frame for a pattern and made me a frame (although they only list as 34 convertible and sedan). They don't list 33's...they can always use yours for a pattern. It was VERY slow a few years back when I got mine.

As a Option you could use model a window screen material as I did on mine as all the rubbers are readily available, if I remember correctly I had to mill of 3/8" of the thickness and I set to a screen guy here and he shaped it to the required shape
put in some really fine counter sunk screws at the top under the hinge so it can always bee pulled apart if the screen broke
the guy here charged me about $450 Nz and supplied the extrusion and rubbers to start with
But mine is a 31

I have a NC Industries brand new WS frame in my '34 Terraplane convert. Never gave any thought to trying to restore the original when the NCI job is so absolutely perfect. Total satisfaction.

NCI does list '33 on their Essex page and that would have to be your Terraplane.

NC used my original w/s frame for the 34 & 35 CV's that I sent them in April 2000. Yes, they were a bit slow (it took 7 months to get it!) but the steel frame they manufactured was a perfect match to the original and my plater did a fantastic job chroming it. They also made up stainless pieces to cover the seam/gap on each side

Cost back in 2000 was $305.00 - and well worth it!
