Check web sites and other sources for Ford, Chevy, Studebaker, etc. Early 12v models of several makes used the same solenoid design as '50 and later Hudsons, but for 12v.

Fifth Ave Internet Garage has 12v selinoids, relay and kickdowns. Reproduction Borg-Warner parts. Kinda salty @ 265.00, but new.

    Hope this helps,

Studebaker International in South Bend, In. has had them remade. They have 6 and 12 volt versions but they're $195.00!

Others have posted a variety of INTERNET sources for the desired solenoid. There is another factor to consider, the depth the solenoid plunger travels. Solenoids have several different plunger depths and this may be a factor in finding a replacement for your OD. Measure your existing solenoid to ID your requirement and consider this when seeking a replacement solenoid. I have been told (but have no experience) the plungers for OD solenoids can be transferred between different solenoids. If this is true the plunger from the original solenoid would be the candidate for transfer to any working 12 volt replacement not meeting the required plunger depth.

  • Pretty sure I have one if you can give me a day or two to dig it out. Maybe contact me a keithnwood@msn.com.

I have a 12 volt system on our 50 Super six, but am still using the 6 volt solenoid for the OD. I am still using the 6 volt Starter and haven't had a problem yet - it's been 3 years and @ 17,000 miles.

I have several- bought them on Ebay for awhile for resale, then lost interest in the project. Also have other overdrive parts. email me at mmittge at compprime dot com, and we'll discuss it.

Would have answered earlier, but we've been "snowed in", and my email is on my office computer. And yes, the boss knows- I'm him!
