Accelerator pedal...

Are the accelerator pedals from Metro the full pedal or just a cover? The 'socket' popped off my pedal today and wondering if I can just get a new one. However, $17 from Rock Auto seems low to me for the full pedal.

    I may be wrong but I have not seen repos of the whole thing with the rubber socket on back. Generaly is the rubber cover on front they sell.

    It is only the rubber cover. Strip any old rubber left on your original off the steel and glue this cover onto your steel.

    Yes, of course this does not solve the problem we all have had that the rubber "socket" on the back side has split open and won't hold the accel. rod. You post as an engineer; can you come up with an inexpensive fix for everyone, please?

    That "everyone" mentioned is just about right, as every stepdown owner out there needs this.

    The Acc Pedal for the 124" WB cars have the rubber socket on the underside. The 119" WB cars use a peddle that mounts to the linkage from the pivot point as well as the Jets too.

    Yes i have modified my own to do away with the ball and socket. Never made any to sell yet however its a good idea. And the Jet type assembly mentioned has its own issues with rust due to lowcation of pivot

    I'm going to use a quick disconnect ball linkage, McMaster # 6058K44, fits perfect on the ball end of the linkage. I'll weld it to the back of the pedal leaving room for the disconnect sleeve. Here's something I bashed together to just drive around with - no welder at work:

    A old Hudson man gave me a fix for repairing the Acc pedal on my Hornet. It has worked great for 5 years now. It was to simply clean off the broken socket from the pedal and replace it with a hex nut with a center hole big enough to fit over the accelerator rod. Attach the nut to the pedal with J B Weld. When dry I put the pin in the bottom of the pedal and the rod has stayed in the nut by just pushing it in. BL

    Believe it or not, Super Glue works great on rubber. If you have all of the pieces, make sure that everything is clean and Super Glue them back together. If it breaks again it probably won't be at the glued joint. Probably best done with the accelerator pedal removed though.
