Stepdown Fender Assembly Clearances?
I took apart the front of my '49 fender to fix some rust out, but as I'm putting it back together it seems I should have paid more attention when I took it apart. If someone could help me with the proper relationship between the parts at the front of the fender it would be much appreciated. The filler piece betwwn the fender and the radiator seems like it should stand pround of the fender by about an 1/8" to match the styling line on the front of the hood, correct? ( Points A and B on the attached photo). And the lower fender extension needs to stand out about a 1/4" or more at the inner edge ( point C), blending to flush at the side of the fender (point D). I certainly could use some help for this. I'm not sure the car was evenly proper assembled when I got it. Thanks in advance. I hope the picture posts OK.

Mark-
Picture didn't come through, but it sounds as though from your description that you've got it pretty well figured out. Knowing these step-downs, it would not surprise me if in the end, you might have to loosen something else (like on the front end) to get it back right where it was, although, if you didn't loosen anything except the inner fender panel and the fender proper, you should be able to get it back in place.
For what it is worth, some other nugget of info that might be helpful to you is to remember that at the factory, the entire doghouse was assembled away from the main body, and then the doghouse as a unit was attached to the cowl and radiator bracket last. So, if it were me, I would loosely fasten the back of the fender (especially if you are alone), line up the front of the fender and get it right where you want it and tighten it down. Then go to the rear of the fender and tighten it last.

Russel, I thought, too, that the picture was not there, just some sort of a white sheet of paper but, I clicked on it and there came a very nicely detailed picture. Michel0
