Anyone have any thoughts on this ? My 54 Hornet, runs great up until about 60 mph. At 60+ mph it starts to miss.... it's seems to be when it's under load going up a grade. Any ideas? The ignition system is new from last season.

Switch out the coil with a spare one and see if that doesn't make a difference.
  • Check out your carburetor to make sure you do not have the lean metering rods. 54 Twin-H 2113s take 75-955 or the 2 barrel WGD 2115s take 75-732. You say at 60 and that is where the lean jets start to act up at sea level. Walt.

I agree with Walt, it is likely to be fuel starvation at high speed, although this would be a hesitation, rather than a "miss". An ignition miss would be much sharper than fuel. It could be points too wide, which affects dwell angle, so check those, and that there is no excess play in the distributor shafts and bushings.
  • harry54- I know you said you went through the ignition . I was working on a car with this problem some time back. New spark plugs fixed the problem. Norm
  • My car was doing that right before the fuel pump went out....Good Luck-Bob
  • Harry... Any progress in finding a fix for your miss?????

Just want to let everyone know it was my ignition wires. Now it runs like a frierght train. Pulls up to 80. Thanks for all the help.
  • Thanks for the update . Glad your problem is solved.
  • Did not think of it earlier but you can see that problem sometimes by opening the hood at night. If it looks like light show when running its a clue,
