54 hornet blows white smoke

I noticed last year when I first started the car in the spring that when driven it would blow white smoke out the tailpipe. After about 100 mile of driving it stopped and now this spring the same thing. Is this a problem that I should be worried about or just something that happens after sitting for 5 months. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I think you might have blown a head gasket & it's allowing water to seep into the cylinders. When started up and gets hot it vaporizes the water = steam = white exhaust.

I too had this issue with a 54 that had sat up for sixteen years,but much ,much worse.....it turned out that I had a stuck intake value in the # 6 cylinder. Took off the head and beat out the stuck value ,replacing it with a new one and that ended the smoke. never the less this was just a band-aid to get the old engine to sing to me.....ha

That is a bad headgasket. Hotrod man had the same problem as he changed the headgasket and that cured his problem. A stuck valve just makes a miss in the engine. Walt.

Thanks Walt and all than answered, I sorta thought it was the head gasket. I will have to buy a felpro gasket from Dale Cooper and get to work. The previous owner changed head gaskets 15 years ago before I bought it, so will have to make sure the head is flat, clean everything and replace. Thanks again.
