Engine or Block Needed for a 34T Coupe
I am still looking for an engine for my 34T KS Coupe that has been in engine 'rebuild' for a couple years. Since rebuildable 34 blocks are apparently not to be found, anybody have a nice 36 to 39 engine? I bought a 36 block before, but rebuilder said it was worse than the cracked 34. The cracked 34 block was pinned and supposedly fixed up, but, had water in the oil after1 short trip - seems that the cracks were fixed, but water came from around the re-sleeve done on a rebuild years ago (I've had the car for 39 years) - which they now say is un-fixable. Soooo, back to square one; hate to have to resto-rod to get on the road again. Any suggestions on rehabbing old sleeve job?
I tried to get a parts wanted ad in WTN, but it didn't 'take' doing it via email. I may end up with nice 34 parts to get rid of; a Walt Mordenti rebuilt original carb for a 34T, 'modernized' rebuilt water pump, and starter, etc...

Hi, I dont know what state your in but maybe you can try Dave Rapp at 570-798 -0390 .
He is in Pa. I know he had at least one pre 39 Hudsons in his Junk yard. Good luck.0 -
Have you tried compounds such as Irontite or Chemi-weld which go in the coolant and will fix leaks around sleeves and cracks in water jackets.0

In 2010 I was in contact with a guy in the Daytona FL area who wanted to sell a complete '36 H/T 6. I cannot retrieve the info because I have moved and my old email was shut down. Maybe someone in the club down there knows him.0

Geoff; TKS. I think Chem-i-weld is Aussie/NZ stuff - not sure we have it here. Anyway, here is what the restoration guys said, which leads me to think that it is beyond the old leak seal:
"The engine shop pinned the cylinder to try to stop the sleeve from leaking. It almost sealed but still had a slight leak. So he pulled the sleeve so he could install a new one correctly. Once the sleeve was pulled he noticed that there was no metal left to hold the sleeve into the block and that was the cause of the leak. Whoever rebuilt the engine the last time ruined the block. So we are back to finding another engine block. "
I've been trying to see if they thought about spray welding or other 'high-tech' methods.0 -
Oh ...and it is a "K" Coupe, BTW - I always have "S" in my head for "Standard," but it is not a Challenger. :-*0

hello, aren't the '34-'35 blocks the same? i'm not sure where you are located i have a '35 block that would need sleeving. i've looked at several '35 blocks and ALL are cracked in that area between either cyl 1 and cyl 2 stud or cyl 5 and cyl 6 stud....or both areas. all three blocks i have are cracked in that area. i want to keep one block as a spare. when i am satisfied the one at the machine shop is good..i will be looking for a home for one of the two remaining. regards, tom (illinois)0

Right ...I think they were the same until 36. I am in California. I see that my "Parts Wanted" ad for a 34 block did get in the White Triangle News this issue - no hits yet.0

Where are you located. I have a 39 motor out of a CC6 that I think is rebuildable. Pistons are out but OK. Located in Northville, NY 12134 Also have 3 good 4-hole rims and a front and rear axle for a 34 with drums etc.

I bought a lot of 1940 parts recently including a stuffed motor. It was sad to see that someone had sleeved all cylinders and several had moved seizing the motor. I have 3 NOS cyl sleeves, and a few complete motors, 1923, 24, 36, 37, 39, & 46 here in South Australia that I cant sell. Unfortunately the freight to ship a block back to the USA is very expensive. Keep looking, one will turn up. Barry0

Sad to say, nothing is selling in Australia anymore, no one doing restos, I have just filled a scrap metal bin with about 2 tonne of HET parts, I have advertised for the last six months and have had not one enquiry, I'm just getting too old and don't want to leave to my children to dispose of it, like I had to do for my late father and brother.0

GOT THEM. Yes - the 'hot-rodder forum' was the way to go. I found the "Holy Grail" - an un-cracked 35 Hudson 6 bare block and two 37 Terraplane 6 engines in my area (in LA, 6 hours away). So, very smart advice on the way to go from our resident expert. As far as the HET Club... not one nibble from the WTN ad or phone calls and emails. The hot-rodders never wanted the engines in the first place. This late hot-rodder had hot-rodded a number of step-downs and other cars (was still a 52 Hornet 2-door there with a Chrysler engine in it and a 33 Essex Terraplane 4-door - all spoken for).
His widow sold a 33 Essex Terraplane coupe to a neighbor to hot-rod, partly because some HET Club guys were berating her for selling it to be hot-rodded (which is probably not the thing to do to the widow of a hot-rodder). Anyway - very smart deal for us to get linked up with the hot-rod guys, even if, or especially if, your interest is in original Hudsons.0
