OK, it has a '55 Hornet motor (painted the wrong color) and looks REAL NICE! I hope it goes to a good home.

I like the look of this car and could get real excited about it---But, first I need to drive to Idaho and buy a lotery ticket. If I won then I would have to decide if it was a good buy??0

Neat looking car. I can see it now. My son will have to someday argue with a nonhudson person That the first Hornet wasnt made until 51 and the nonhudson person will tell him hes wrong because he saw a 49 Hornet. LOL Glad I will be long gone by then. PS I have done my share of trying to explain this in the past. LOL0

To a non Hudson person, every Hudson is a Hornet.
I can't tell you how many times I've gotten "Oh - a Hornet?" after telling someone I had a Hudson.0 -
Its a shame that all the other records set by Hudsons in the past are long forgotten. There was a book published in 1953,"Those wonderful old Automobiles" I believe, that stated Hudsons have set more records for speed, power, and indurance than any other automobile manufactured in the world. The Super 6 and inline 8 had alot to do with that. Of course GM and Ford didnt make Hudsons so this gets no notice. Also, that Generation is long gone. I am old enough to have heard some of the stories. At least some remember the Hornets. A real shame.0

Believe it or not, I actually have a copy of that book - it was my Grandfather's.
It's been years since I've looked at it. I'll have to dig it out and read it again.0 -
cpr 3333, I have that book also but, like everything else I couldnt find it tonight. lol. I have to tell you a hudson story before I leave. I grew up in NE iowa and in 1951 I was 10 years old. I hung around the Phillips 66 station like kids do the electronics stores to day. A salesman come in the station with a brand new Olds 88. In those days they carried their merchandise in their cars and made regular stops. He bragged how fast it was (and they were) and how he had outran everything he raced. In those days there wasnt any speed limits and very few highway patrols and they drove Fords. They had to catch you to give you a ticket. Anyway he went on and on about the Olds. He said that He would buy any car that could out run him. Several months went by and the next time I saw him he was driving a brand new 51 Hudson Hornet. True story. Good night.0

This 1949 "Hornet" must be that historical Hornet that Kerouac wrote about in "On The Road". He does say that the boys went cross-country in a 1949 Hornet - but Kerouac can be forgiven. He wrote that book. an auto-biography of his life at the time, in 1951, around the time the Hornet came on the scene and was burning up race tracks.
I also have a copy of "Those Wonderful Old Automobiles" on my book shelf. Tho I was born in the 30's, I think I got this book on ebay.

According to the Wikipedia entry on Mario Andretti, he and his twin brother got started in racing with a 1948 Hudson Hornet (much rarer than the '49 since it predates actual by production by three years and not just two ).
The funny thing is that in the article, 'Hudson Hornet' is linked to a page that states that the Hornet was built from 1951 to 1954. Apparently, the person who wrote the artcicle for Wikipedia didn't use Wikipedia as a reference.0
