Another of the "old guard" passes on- he was a stalwart of the Hudson club, and obviously from the obituary, a life will lived.

There was an excellent article on Herb some years back, in "Classic Auto Restorer", I think. Seems that he was so enamored of Hudsons that when the company pulled the plug in 1954, he bought several new ones from the dealership, so he would have Hudsons to drive for the rest of his life- mostly Jets, I think, but someone else can flesh out the story. I don't know how many he had left at the end, but some of the Jets had just a few miles on them.

Another of the legendary Club members passes on. A great guy, faithful Hudson owner and promoter of the Hudson nameplate whose own car was prominently featured in one of the two most famous movies (so far!) to have promoted "our brand". His foresight (in buying three brand-new 1954 Hudsons when he learned that the company was to close) resulted in the preservation of two Hudsons in like-new condition, for posterity.

Herb was a true Southern Gentleman. I had the pleasure of meeting him and having him give me a personal inspection of his collection. A memory I will always cherish. He even bought my lunch! Rest in peace my friend. See you on the other side.

Just returned from the funeral service. Nicely done ... the pastor talked a bit about Herb's affection for Hudsons. Twelve Dixie Chapter members present, and Hudsons were part of the procession to the cemetery.

Five cars remain from the collection. Am planning to get current asking prices and will post photos and prices at Gettysburg. Cars are: '24 Touring, '29 Standard Sedan (gorgeous car), '49 C8 convertible, '49 C8 sedan (the "Miss Daisy" car), '54 Jetliner (very nice car, one owner, all optioned up).
  • What better way to be remembered than everytime we watch the move, "Driving Miss Daisy", we'll think of Herb Bell and his '49 Hudson sedan that was prominently used in this wonderful motion picture story.
