SLOW CRANKING

What would cause a engine to turn over slowly when attempting to start it?

This issue began recently. I replaced the old battery with a NEW BATTERY (Exact replacement for the Old Battery) that cranked the motor over perfectly for over 3 years and now both the old battery and the new battery turn the engine over very very slowly.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

TOM

Check the resistance in all of your cables, it might just be corroded cables, and not the battery!
  • check your brushs on your armuture on starter

Sounds like something you did at the time you changed batteries. The possibility that some piece of electrical apparatus chose just that moment (when the new batt'ry went in) to fail, is too coincidental.

Try grounding the positive battery terminal to the frame with a jumper cable (that's quick to do) to see if your ground strap has internally corroded or it moved slightly when you installed the new battery, causing the part that's bolted to your frame to lose contact.

Bet ya it's something REALLY simple.

One other possibility is that the bush at the rear of the starter motor can wear. This means that the armature is no longer running true between the field coils, which causes slow and/or erratic turning.
