Stepdown Hood Latch Mystery
I have two different bottom hood latch assemblys on my 49's. My 49 Super 4 door has a small latch about 6 1/2" wide. My 49 Com. Conv and a Super 6 Two door have a large one 12" wide. I suspect my four door has a later model (50?) latch and apron. The 49 and 50 have different part numbers in the 48-54 master parts book. The pic on the left is the conv. and the same as the Super two door. The one on the right is the Super 4 door.

Dave, you are correct. Similar btie panel was used on the 1950 but the wide base was used on the 48-9 only. If the 1950 base is used with a 48-9 hood, it tends to not shut as low as with the correct base.0

Hi Dave, I think I missed something here. I remember, not so long ago, that you were looking for a conv. Looks like you already found it. Have you posted pictures? If so, where so I can see it?.
I'm glad you did. Michel0 -
Well, c'mon, Dave ... show 'em some pic's of that beautiful car! By the way ... you gonna' live with that top for a while, or replace it right away? I leaned on Herbert a number of times to get a nice tan top installed, but he wasn't too concerned over the one that's on it.0

Dave, in addition to what Hudzilla states, if you have a 50 hood installed, they can be made to work, you need to use the 50 crossmember and latch0

My hood fits fine and it'sa 49. ?? The panel that the latch mounts on must be 50 as well. Maybe someone made other alterations, but I never noticed anything, I have had the front end apart a few times.0
