Just recieved a phone call from a gentleman in Akron Ohio Area. He is restoring a Hudson Jet. Someone broke into his garage and stole two jet engines, a transmission and a blueJet hood. Told him I would post this information on the Forum, and think I have conviinced him to join H.E.T. If anyone see's or hears anything of someone peddleing these parts, please call me (# in Roster) and I will contact him. (He is checking local scrap yards)

  • No doubt this thief is headed for the scrap yards. Not Gettysburg. Hope these Jet items are found soon and whoever did it is locked away for a good length of time.

This reminds me of an incident I witnessed at our railroad yard several years ago. While returning in the RR cab after our switching duties were done, a student locomotive engineer noticed someone loading heavy steel tie plates (used between the rail and tie) into his small pickup truck. We followed him out of the yard and onto the highway. At the same time, we phoned the local police giving them coordinates as to where the truck was headed. Soon, a police car with lights off (this was around midnight) passed us in a flash and then turned all his lights on. To make a long story short, he was arrested for theft of railroad property.

A week later, he was caught by our own railroad police at the same place stealing the same tie plates. Apparently there is really good money to be made in scrap metal these days.

Must have taken them awhile to remove such heavy parts.
