Hudson people tend to be a tad bit out of synch with the rest of the world. LOL
The service magazines in the online library are worth reading thru.
I wouldn't have minded owning a StudBacker back in the day. They were very good cars.

  • My kind of folks! I'll bookmark that site, I am sure I will need to refer to it often.
  • Here is a taste for now.

Sure looks nice, you sure couldn't put a project together for that money. I
've heard the western NY chapter is pretty quiet the last few years. My parents and brother are members but my parents don't drive their cars anymore. There are a lot of members and cars in the area, just not too much activity.
  • The fella I got in contact with, Gugino I believe, is going to mail me a schedule of their upcoming events. If like our Studebaker club, it will go straight from summer picnic to Christmas party :))

Congrats on your newest family member. I have a 37 four dr. sedan and it's a very nice driving car. The 3x5 six cylinder engines like the one in your car are very tough. Hope the knock is an easy fix. Post more pictures when you get a chance, we love pictures. Please ask question!! You'll get some good info from the people on this forum.

  • Thank you all for your interest...I am very excited to be a part of Hudsondom! The seller should receive my deposit check tomorrow and once it clears, we can rock-n-roll. I put the Stude on Craigslist this am and already got a guy to come look at it, we fired her up but he is coming back in a day or so to take a spin - cross your fingers.

Just as a matter of curiosity, what made you decide to get rid of the President and get a Hudson?
  • I'm not the '57 Chevy type of gal, I like a more unusual, head-turning ride. I was working on a '60 TBird when I asked myself, "is this my dream car?" After seeing the Studebaker my answer was no. Sold the square bird and bought the President in '94. About a 10 years ago, I went with a friend to check out a '68 GTX - it was all orange and striped like the General Lee but my attention was on the rusty hulk on the other side of the garage, a '36 Terraplane...she had haunted my dreams ever since!
  • Plus, since I do not think I will ever be in the '36 Cord Supercharged convertible tax bracket, this is the next best example of art deco styling in my estimation.

That's a great answer! Like the way you think. =D>
  • Thanks. The deposit check should have arrived so I am just waiting for the call. Then I will inundate you folks with a new post with loads of pics - get ready for a flood of questions.

Get in touch with Uncle Josh on here, he's a great guy and knows these cars pretty well.

    BTW, he's in upstate N.Y.!
  • Will do. He checked in with this post early on while I was shopping, perhaps a member of local HET?!

Uncle Josh lives about 30 minutes north of Amsterdam, NY. He himself has a 1936 Terraplane, running though not restored. At the very least try to get to his annual car meet around the 4th of July weekend, in Northville, NY.
  • That's waaaaay on the other side of the state! I am just south of Buffalo, that would be quite the treck, besides we are always out of town over the 4th. Perhaps another occasion.

You'll find the '36 is a very nice car to drive with very good handling, steering and brakes. With the engine in 100% condition with good compression it will have plenty of hill-flattening power too, relatively speaking.
  • Hope the same is true for the '37 because that is what I am picking up a week from Sunday 8->

1936 models had teething problems - a lot were ironed out in the 1937 models. Better steering and suspension come to mind.

Alex, I haven't driven a '36 and '37 back to back so it would be interesting to hear what the differences are in the driving experience.
