In 54 they were using up a lot of left over parts so it is possible if your car was a later one,

The steering wheel is certainly a 54 not a earlier one. Gonna eat then I will go out to garage and take pic of it. The shifter knob is also blue marble.0

Does anyone have a '54 wheel they are willing to loan or sell to Rob? He's gonna need a good example if he is to make a mould.0

The colors on the 48-9 Comm. wheel shown above appear to be close. However, the center is only one color with silver\chrome inserts for the stripes and other ornaments. center section of the center cap is clear plastic which has been painted on the back. The 2 end pieces are cast in color. The flash makes the NOS one in my photo appear to be different colors between the ends and the center. It is only an illusion due to the flash and the difference in construction.
The wheel is the same color as the center

I just got back from my garage. I checked out the 52 and 54 wheels hanging there. They are different. The 3 spokes between the wheel and the hub are shaped different but the rim appears to be the same. I have a 54, that I could part with. It has no missing sections.

Thanks for all of the info Lew. I now have a lot better feel for how the 48-49 Commodore wheel is made. Is the center section of the center cap, that is clear plastic, a separate piece from the ends? Or do the ends and center look to be all one piece? Are you saying that all of the chrome looking parts are painted on or is part of it metal?
I will send you a PM about the 54 wheel that you would be willing to part with. Thanks a lot. Rob0 -

And, we have liftoff . . .0 -
The center section is a seperate peice. Actully, Hudson sold both the center peice alone as well as center with the ends. I don't know why they did that as the center with no ends is about useless. I have both in NOS.... go figure.

Could you guys give me some advice on what you think would be a reasonable amount to pay for a pacemaker steering wheel core? I have a fellow hudson guy who has one for me but neither of us really knows what a going rate would be for them. Since this is the first one I am buying it will sort of set a precedent for any future ones I buy. Thanks for any advice. Rob0

Just a guess, Rob. I think $20 is a fair price, $50 would be pretty high. This is just for a core, not a useable steering wheel, as is.0
