So, according to Walts tech in manual #1 the rear spring, rear shackles, should be different with the one for the left side with a left hand thred on one end. I got mine off and they are both the same. The bushings are pretty worn down as well.
Is it possible they are supposed to be this way? (the same that is)
If not then I guess I am in the market for the correct shackle for the left side and new(er) bushings as well.
Probably wouldnt hurt to change out the front of the spring bushings as well. They are a bigger size also.
Any ideas?
These would be for a 36T model 61.
Thank you!
Jeff

Seen many part cars I took apart that the left and right side were the same from the factory. Also seen some that did have a left handed thread on the drivers side that attached to the leaf spring while the top frame one was right handed thread.
  • They get a price for them, but their website says they have them, new manufacture.
Website's a little awkward, so you may need to give them a call....shop.rareparts.com/smtp/rpdef.asp
    Good luck-Bob

Hey Russ, yes thats kind of what my research has turned up also. Would like to get the correct left
(drivers) side shackle since I have it all apart.

And thanks rbennett, I did check that out. You are correct in they are a bit spendy.
Would rather work with someone in the club if possible.
    Thanks for all help!
    Jeff
  • If I remember correctly, starting in 1936 the left rear spring shackle lower was a left hand thread and stayed that way to 1954. I have a good used one for 48 to 54 but I do not have a 36 to 39 parts book, sold it, to see if numbers are the same. Walt.

They are the same as the old army Jeep and early Dodge as well.

Ok, so it seems by my part # research that my 36 did have both right hand threaded shackles on both sides! They are Hudson part # 45304. So olracer, I think the carparts discount ones are gonna work! Thank you! And Walt, dont know if that part # will help or not.
Also found part #'s for bushings-front of spring=153239, rear of spring=153231 and center bolt=46202.
Now just gotta find the center bolts and front bushings......
    Thanks all!

Just in case anyone needs to do this type of job, Walts tech tip and tool in his book worked great!(i didnt expect otherwise!)
Got the rear shackles on, now still need center bolts and front of the spring bushings.....
    Thanks,
    Jeff
