Greater Eight Coupe 1932
Hallo,
here I am back again after a lot of work at my Hudson. With great help from this forum now engine, clutch, gearbox, rear axle ... are well working. Two new problems appeared unfortunately, perhaps someone can give me an advice:
1.a lot of condence water was in the carb, engine could not start, I have a new restored heat riser fitted. I dont know where it comes from.
2. the 8 volt akku was dead, I tried to install a 6 volt akku, it did not work, but the bulbs are 6 volt bulbs I dont understand...I have heared the 8 volt is only for the starter, when engine is running electric system works with 6 volt... is it correct ?
It is very difficult here in germany to find a 8 volt akku.
Thank you for every info
Regards from germany

You should not need a 8 volt battery. Someone put the 8 volt battery in because they were having trouble starting the car. Probably due to poor maintenance. If all is in good order 6volts should work fine to start & run motor. After installing proper 6 volt battery check charging rate to makesure they did not set it up too high fo the 6 volt .

1. don't see how you could get condensation in an updraft carburetor???
2. agree with Tallent, no need for anything but a 6 volt battery as engine very low compression0 -
Most of the time people put an 8 volt battery in because of dirty or corroded connections. Make sure all connections are clean and shiny this includes the connections to the starter, all ground straps, and the starter where it bolts to the bell housing. The way to check them mis to put a volt meter across the connection, ie starter case to bell housing, and check to see that there is no reading with the starter engaged. A reading of 1/2 volt will seriously impair the operation of the starter. I know it's a lot of dirty work but it's worth it. Good luck.0

I'll go with Marconi's suggestion to clean wiring connectors. A few years back I had a 1969 Rambler- not that it matters - and the alternator light started coming on - sometimes bright, sometimes dim. I checked everything out and couldn't find the problem. The battery was staying charged so I wasn't to worried. Finally I took loose every wiring connection I could get at under the hood - even the little spade plug in types (those do come apart by the way). Problem went away.

Hallo,
I followed the advices and it works. The new 6Volt Batterie does its job well ! It was a problem of ground contact.
Thanks to all
