Clutch with Modern Material - Wet or Dry?
I had a lucky find in some parts I bought recently from Melbourne, Oz. It was a modern relining of an Essex clutch (about 1927). After driving 1,700 km (1056 miles) to pick the parts up, one tip I received was to have one made instead of cork. The clutch has a modern lining with no groves - completely flat. Should this be run wet or dry? If wet, can I use ATF Dexron 3 which I recently purchased for my 28 Essex Roadster? Peter - Brisbane Oz.

Peter, don't use it. You will have nothing but trouble trying to convert your existing clutch to a dry plate. And a modern friction lining will tear itself to bits if you use it wet. Stick to the correct cork, running in A.T.F. This can be either bonded flat cork, or individual corks as original.
