48-49 Guage Panel ID
Of the two guage panels pictured, The one on the left is the same as all the 49's I have owned. The one on the right has been on my shelf for at least 40 years. Whatzit for? Notice that it has verical scales AND the guage locations have been switched. ?? Could really confuse a guy if he should swap it out with out reversing the wires.

the vertical is early 480

The one on the left is for a Commodore. The one on the right is for a Super0

I agree with Nick S. the one with the vertical scales is for early 48's.0

The lettering on the vertical one appears to be "cheaper' so surely could be "super". When i think back... way back.. I restored a 49 super six for someone that had a lot of missing hardware. I had a 49 Commodore parts car that donated a lot of parts. I may have swapped the guages.. I hope I switched the wires! LOL0

Super Dave - The gauge group on the right is latge production 1949. I was not aware of the different locations for fuel and temp tho.0

That kind makes sense since the 49 Imay have taken it out of was 491146762 which I figured to be a September car. Whatcha think Alex? Sept? I wonder what they were thinking with the change? Perhaps a new parts source? It sure looks cheap, Only a Super part? It sure wouldn't match the Commodore clock and speedo.0

Well in general the black gauges were Supers and the wood grain were Commodore. So the one on the right is a super set. The question is when it was made ,those on the right are for sure the rarer of the two types. I an tempted to say they are early 48 ,it just seems to me thats the only place I've seen them,
