Hi all,
Here are some pictures of a very rare Hudson vehicle Calvin Buchanan of the North Texas chapter recently added to his stable of rare Hudson products. It is a 1927 Bidle and Smart bodied Hudson Super Six house car with an extended aluminum body for camping trips. The body was extended by cutting it just behind the rear doors and fitting front door skins into the body and reattaching the rear section. This early RV motor home was professionally built with fitted compartments throughout, fold down bunk beds, a pop-up top mechanism the folds into the interior space for travel. This ingenious wood and canvas pop out allows 6 foot plus head clearance and comfortable movement when it is up. There is a dash mounted full width water storage tank complete with spigot and also above that a full width set of compartments for storage of maps, gloves pencils etc for easy access by passenger or driver. There are several under floor storage lockers. compartments and small storage cabinets throughout. Windows were covered by curtains on a slide wire, and removable rear seats could be used as camp seats and then refitted to the floor mounted brackets.
The odometer shows just over 31,000 miles and is most likely correct judging by the overall condition. The vehicle runs and drives strongly and is very complete with just a small area of water damage to the pop-up wood. The storage bins on the right front fender contain a chest for ice, a fold down table for prep and dining, and includes the original enamel wash basin! The large rear locker were for gear and food. There are other attached brackets supports and bins that we don't know the usage just yet. This vehicle came from a northern New England estate about 7-8 years ago and if anyone knows more of it's history and ownership, Calvin would love to hear from you. Also anyone that knows of other camp cars from this era, has any literature about house cars, or has pictures of similar vehicles, would you please contact Calvin at cgrrb@yahoo.com.
Hats off to Calvin and Virginia for their dedication to Hudson history!

Hi again, I heard today that there is a 1929 Hudson house/camp car in the western part Washington state, somewhere around Seattle? If anyone knows of this vehicle or knows who owns it please contact Calvin. Thanks!

There is one of the house/camp cars in Salt Lake City. The owner had it at a national meet a number of years back. It is unrestored, but runs great and looks quite good.0

I love it! My dad has a stock 27 B&S brougham, very cool camper.0

This isn't a Hudson, but it's an early House Car built in Gloversville, NY Just down the road 12 mi.
Jim Taylor (Taylor Made) also has a 35 Ford Truck motorhome used by an evangelist for revival meetings in his collection. His aquaintence and collection are a great experience if you're ever in Gloversville. He's known to be driving any one of his 125 or so cars for a week or so at a time. He drove his 41 Buick Cv. in the Peking to Paris road race.0
