the begining of my newest adventure

Great progress! At this rate it will look like a car again in no time.0
-
Well it is going to take a while, that much I know but a bit gets done every week. I am truly eating the elephant one bite at a time.0
-
Just brought the motor home to start working on it, I got this one a long time ago, came from a very original 35 coupe that was rodded down in TN. John Mann saved all of the unused drive line from being scrapped and I got it from him. The other side has factory asbestos wraps still on the headpipe.0

A Small bit of progress, I have the engine apart and # 6 has some issues so not as easy as I thought it would be but when is it? The motor did run ( never heard it myself) how well who knows but we will have to do some extra work to make it right again. Cleaning parts and sending out the Gen and Starter to get done today.0
-
More parts that I have cleaned up and gotten ready. Some pics of #6 cyl that has some issues. I am thinking it will need a sleeve to be right but all the other don't even have a ridge.0
-
Course, I'm no expert, but it looks as though the cylinder wall is quite thin between cylinders. Can you sleeve that? Seems like it would be easier to build up weld on the edge of the cylinder and then re-bore to get rid of the chunk missing.
Those parts look great! Isn't it amazing? A little work and those old parts look like brand new again. I love it!0 -
Unfortunately, sleeving these engines distorts the next cylinder.0
-
ra4jumb, what problems does #6 have? Is there more involved than the missing metal on the lip of the bore?0
-
Bob I have been off with the Army for a while, there is that funny area on the top of the cyl and some pitting further down in the bore. I have to get it in the air and look at the bottom end then figure out how to proceed. The Starter and Gen are off getting done so they should be ready when I get home. That is the latest and greatest, lost all of July worth of garage time but i have to pay the bills. Mark0

That small pit could be a good candidate for a "Lock N Stitch" repair, as I did during overhaul of my 1940 Cadillac Flathead, that actually had cracks right through from the cylinder to intake valve area:

Here's a couple of pictures from my repair. Really easy, and all you need is a hand drill to install, followed by a dress-up grinder afterward. Mine is holding up beautifully:0 -
That may be an option but still sorting through what the next step needs to be but first I need to get home to actually get rolling on it again. I will be picking up the parts I mentioned above from my electric guy and then I have to think clutch.0
-
Well finally got the motor on a stand and the bottom end looks very good, took most of the caps off and they are in excellent shape (it is a very low Mi motor).0
-
I had forgotten I was to post the number of the shocks that I used for the car they are monroe 37156 STs They needed the eyes worked a bit and I have not driven it but they look like they will work well.0
-
Well I ran the fuel line alongside the frame today so I felt I did something at least.0
-
Still hunting parts and getting the motor ready to go out and be cleaned up. Working on some small parts in the meantime as well, just finished the spare tire carrier and working on the rear pan. Mark0
-
made some small steps with engine small parts and fuel line. Also took a step away and did some work on the 33 to make it roll a bit better.0

I have a triangular Hudson Built Steel Body tag from a 1934 Terraplane 4 door if anyone needs it. That was the 1st car I ever owned. I bought it when I was 14 and planned to restore it and have it ready to go when I got a drivers license. Reallity eventually set in and I realized it was never going to be done in time. So I traded it for a Jeep. But I kept that one piece and have had it on my car key ring ever since. That was 40 years ago, and I still have it.0

Show off! (LOL!) But thanks for finding it.0
