52 coupe is Dave Lanning's. There are so darned many "Daves" in the OBC it gets confusing. Dave Hase is the pres. He drives a 49 Commodore coupe. Of course "Superdave" Dave Waddell was there too with Ruby, the 49 Commodore convertible. A couple more Daves were not there.. Dave Corellis and Dave Davis. . gee 3 outa 5 aint bad!
About the getting lost thing....Oh Boy.....The tour was supposed to take us from Okeechobee on the Northern shore, around the Easten shore of the lake and circle Westerly to the town of Cleweston for lunch, then on back north to the town of Okeechobee again. A couple stops along the way for picturesn etc...After the first stop, Tom Fink's 53 Hudson Hornet had a passenger that needed a pit stop. so three of us (Tom, Dave Hase and Dave Waddell) stopped for a while then continued, but missed the right turn at Belle Glade. The rest of the story is that after a long run in the wrong direction, Dave Hase turned around and corrected his course. SuperDave stayed with Tom Fink to see where the heck he was going! We ended up at Palm Beach and then we went north on I-95. Giving up on our tour of then lake and decided to just find our way back to Okeechobee and have a cold one.. All was working to plan until SuperDave's Commodore eight decided to drop out of overdrive. a quick stop to see what was wrong was not fruitful. Took off again at 65 MPH and the OD worked fine ... for a while, then dropped again. This time, the speed was reduced to 55 MPH to the next rest area where the old 8 cylinder started makeing ominous noises. A roll back was ordered and the last 38 miles were on the flat bed. Thanks to "Good Sam " Road service , we were back at the KOA and had the long awaited (and deserved)"Cold one".. Engine making load metallic noises. Disconnecting plugs one at a time shows #5 makes a little difference, but not much. now engine is hard starting won't stay running. Oil pressure is OK, no overheating and no water in the oil.
Fast forward to Sunday afternoon I thought I had broken a piston,, Wrong..
results of head and timing cover removal.. Nothing found. Distributor cap has the center contact missing.(hard starting solved!) The timing marks on the gears are still aligned. Will drop the pan Monday Morning. The oil line to the timing cover is kinked and no oil is flowing at all during constant cranking. I removed thje cam gear to give it a close examination. Doesn't appear to be defective.. has a "Made in Argentina". brand.
it's a hobby and sooo much fun!! I keep telling myself.0 -
I'm going to try and remember you Dave's last names and call you that, like in high school. So Super Waddell I hate to hear about your bad luck, I was the last Hudson in the pack and kept slowing and speeding up to see where the rest were. Years ago I think we did better with CB's than cell phones now. Don't ask the girls about us guys always knowing the way.. I thought we were running a little fast for a vintage bike or car tour. I would love taking my original 34 to some of the Hudson meets that have tours, but 50 is a good top speed for it and my other older ones maybe 35 or 40. If an interstate is part of the route or heavy traffic, you'll see me in a modified ride.
I loved your 49 rag top and was wanting some photos, but we headed home after the lunch.0 -
I took the head and timing cover off while the engine was in the car and found no problems. just yanked the whole shootin' match out and will pull the pan in an hour or so (after lunch) and see what's up. No doubt I'll be looking at rebuilding the lower end.I wonder how to check the oil pump? rebuildable? Never done an eight. Any advice will be appreciated... except installing a six .L.O.L.0

There isnt nuch to go wrong in there ,common thing would be a broken spring in the pump. Thats it mounted on the side of the engine with the tubes going to it,
