As of December first I am heading down to SoCal to prep and load the 1947 C6 Hudson. The independent shipper I have hired promised to have the car in Sacramento on Sunday which will be nice, and I am going to get all the paperwork done the same week, so *fingers crossed* I should have her back on the road as soon as december 10th.


As for the fate of this 1947 Hudson, I am going to do all the body work and repaint her during my first specialization (street rod) and repair her interior in my Upholstery specialization. Which means, she will be completely restored by September 2013. Minus the engine of course. Once I get her numbers, I would like to track down her original L6 if it still exists.

This to me appears to be a 1946, 1947 has the extra section on the nose cone, and the '47 has twin door locks, not being picky, but, just telling the difference that I know of, I could be wrong and it would not be the first time.LOL

The photos shown are what we have found in Australia.
The one parked betwen the lines side view is 1946
The one backed in to the kerb is 1947, notice the extra little raised bit of chrome on the nose cone.

This is the difference I have found, we never did get any 1947 Hudson's here in Australia all we got were 1946 with out that extra chrome piece.
Please let me know if that is correct or not. Never too old to learn.

Your obervation in most cases would be correct identification. However, not with this car.
46 Commador 6 serial number starts with 32.
47 Commador 6 serial number starts with 172.
The car Chris is buying has the serial number that starts with 172.

I had the same thoughts you had until I double checked the serial number. When I was asked to help with the estate sale of all the cars, I had been told this car was a 47 Commador 8. Not so.

Also, many 46, 47 Hudsons listed in the HET Club Roster have the wrong year when compared to the serial number listed for the car. Those owner mistakes may possibly have been sent in too be printed in the roster because of similar reasons mentioned.

Thanks for the input guys, as we are always open to others points of view and reasons why, having been around Hudson cars for over 50 odd years, nothing surprises me any more from the Hudson Motor company, they quite often used parts from the previous model or vice versa, and especially the cars that we ended up with here in Australia.

All the 1946 Hudson sedans that we have here have the old 1939 bodies with the two piece rear windows , sloping trunk, and high rood line, unlike the 1942 Brougham we own with the one piece rear window, the larger rear trunk and flatter roof line, Aussie 1946 Hudson pictured.

Chris, Great looking car. I saw it last week while I was picking up my car. A very complete car and should be a fun project to put back on the road. I expect to have mine up and running but doubt it will be finished as soon as yours.

I am looking forward to heading down tomorrow to SoCal to get the Hudson ready and shipped back to Sacramento. The only thing that might make it interesting to say the least in the weather, since it looks like it is going to be wet and windy for the next few days. Free car wash I guess.. lol

If my memory is correct , the trunk emblem on 46 cars was plastic , and in 47 it was cast metal.
What happened after it left the factory ,who knows?

Lost - right, and I believe the '46 radio has a gold facing whereas the '47 is silver.

Yesterday, besides the weather everything came together. Lee helped me pick up the new tires of the car and I put them on and the shipper came in good time. It is going to arrive in a little while in Sacramento.

Yes Lee, you wrote down the serial number correctly: 17282677. I also found a headlight in the trunk beside the spare tire and there were two carbs, one in the car and one in the trunk.
