My 52 Hornet was French Blue with the Ivory Top - but now it just looks grey...
But... sometime in the future I plan to paint it two-tone Grey-Green. Primer-like grey body, not sure on finish - flat, satin, or gloss. Top and below the trim in Detroit Diesel Alpine Green, gloss, because I like the color. I'm thinking of fine, red pinstripes throughout green.0 -
I know that my 1954 7D originally came in Spring Green and Pasture Green. The top is still the original factory Pasture Green paint, I had the Spring Green repainted, but chose to brighten it up a bit.

My 36 is green and black. It came from the factory grey. Grey did not do much for me so I changed it. My montra is green I get to keep--red (Resale Red) I will end up selling it. So, my 54 that I am just starting came from the factory in Cream. It had an Earl Schibe paint job in lite blue in about 66. When it comes out of my shop it will be Lipstick red. Or, something close to the color that Hudson had in 54. There was a time when I would only settle for original "Factory Pack" paint. Those original mixtures do not exist any more and close is about as good as it gets now days. However, the new paints are much more fun to work with. Anyone can do them.0

There was Either a lot of Green ones made or the green paint had some preservative power thhat has kept them around. As you say there seems to be a lot of them around ,

Hudson buyers over the years have seemed to be rather conservative so that may explain all the greens. My Pacemaker was originally Peacock Green, but now has a 1971 Chevy paint that is a similar color. I don't think that is straying too far from original and it is a somewhat deeper color that I like.

My 53 Hornet is, and was, Seal Gray/ Black (roof) code is 147 with Broadway Blue interior. This was a bit of a problem, since I was advised by the late Charlie Regnurus that about 4 out of 5 53s had the green durafab material. So I guess green was by far the most popular combo assuming the choice of interiors swayed exterior choices.0

I have only had 2 Hudson's that were green. Light blue seems to be the winner for me (currently have four in the field), followed closely by red.0

My former 1929 Hudson Victoria came ONLY in Reseda Green.

My 48 was a dark blue turquoise or a dark green. It was painted Texas tan when I bought it and the original color is only in the trunk and under the hood in small spots. It's hard to say exactly what the old color was.

My first 49 Com. Conv was black (sold after painted cream), 51 Hornet four door, light blue (sold that way),53 Superwasp 4 door was red with black top (green interior),Repainted silver with black top (sold), 53 Superwasp was green with blue interior (crushed, Oh my!),49 super 6 four door was black, painted turqoise green (sold),
In the inventory now...49 Super two door sedan is still black.whats left of it. It would be a parts car if there were any parts on it LOL,49 Com, 8 Conv was french blue originally is now two tone maroone.
So out of 7 Hudsons, one was green. three were black.0 -
My old 50 Commodore was originally dark blue and repainted cream over gray, blue upholstery and blue wheel. The current 54 Special is meadow green over spring green, green upholstery, green wheel.0

My Jet Liner was light blue, with red interior paint and red/cream vinyl upholstery. Yuck! When I restored the car I sprayed the top moonstone white, and the rest Strato blue (Light grey/blue), and the interior I repainted in a medium blue, and used blue and grey woolen check cloth for the seats. Much more pleasing aesthetically, and stays a lot cooler with the white roof. The '28 Essex was Royal blue / Corsica blue/ and black guards, with the window surround recesses Corsica blue, and I restored it to these original colours.0

I was born in Chicago in '47. As I came to learn cars and to like Hudsons, it sure seemed like every Hudson in that northern Illinois area was green or lite green or dark green or sometimes two tone green. When I saw a blue '49 for sale in Wisconsin I went up and bought it to be different. I am NOT kidding.

My 49 Commadore was stamped R/M Red Maroon on the door hinge. Not being able to find the match readilly, I picked out some rattle cans and had it mixed up. They are late 80s Chrysler colors and I think brighter than the originals. (And being brighter m'self, I thot I'd go that way.) I understand now that Hibernia Restorations can mix the right stuff.

Was driving from California to Texas in Toro Red '53 Hornet back in the '70's....pulled in for gas where the 50ish aged gas attendant asked "what's the old car?".... "It's a Hudson", I replied. "A Hudson?" he queried. "I thought all Hudsons were green."0

I have had 3 54's. 1 oman Bronze with Cream top, 1 Yellow with a black top, 1 Spring Green/Cream top
1 53, light green with cream top
1 52,,, toro red with khaki top
1 49.. 2 tone blue
1 46 - Gray
1 26 - Hudson Blue
2 29's One brown 3 tone the other Black/Blue/Blue 3 tone
So there is no winner in the Step-down category and the others are mentioned just for fun

Your mention of the 54 with Roman Bronze reminds me that Everett Hudson in Massachusetts used to have a 54 sedan in Roman Bronze with a black top. I wonder where that car is now.

Everett Hudson sold the '54 Hornet to Milt Davis from Ohio many years ago. don't know if Milt still owns it0

My 52 sedan was originally Jefferson Green. Surprises me how many of the cars listed here in this post so far, are NOT Jefferson Green. I had heard that somewhere in the neighborhood of anywhere from 65 to 75% of step-downs in this era were said green. Hudson must have gotten one hell of a deal on a blue-ton of green paint. LOL!
The 52 convertible was originally some burgundy-ish color, which is very decidedly NOT green.0 -
My theroy is the youngins don't like green cars..look at a lot of the survior cars from the 60's...many of those are green!0

My Dads '48 Hudson was piedmont and savoy green. From what I have read in the past green has never been a popular color for cars. My '49 sedan was gull gray and repainted in the '70's to a similar gray. I did my '49 brougham in gull gray and quebec gray. The car was originally black I didn't want a black car. My '54 Hornet is cream with a green roof.
Funny when I was a kid and my father had his green Hudson, my uncles all had green cars. My Dad was the only smart one with a Hudson. LOL0 -

I bought my '51 Pacemaker in the mid-60's from the son of the original owner. It had the original Bali Blue paint. Within weeks of buying the car it went to the paint shop for a maroon and silver two tone. It has remained those colors since then, although that two tone repaint job has long since been done over.0
