Stewart Warner Type 25 Needle Problem

Is the metering needle separating from its anchor ring a common problem? I have re-soldered the brass ring to the needle and have the engine running again however it is too rich so need to lift the needle slightly with the coke adjustment fully backed off.

My guess is the broken needle stuck in the dash-pot not allowing any fuel to get through (if it was not stuck, its weight should have keep it down allowing some fuel through especially when the coke was fully out) as it did not look like starting. It had been running a couple of hours before with a new rattle which may have been the lose needle.

Are new or NOS needles available? The one in there is an "A" 3/4 and is probable worn after years of work on the 1928 Essex Roadster.

Any help or advice word be welcome.

Thanks,

Peter Wilkinson

What carb? My 28 Essex Coupe came with Detroit Lubricator - Stewart 25!
I may be able to help with a used needle if you use the same carb.

Peter, I have never found anything other than the A 3/4 metering pin. I have spares if you need one.
