Call pertronix and get their part number for the application. You can take the part # and call Summit Racing and order it.

Little guy companies just cant survive [-(0

Just wait Walmart will be selling them too. They are trying to sell everything. Not good for this country. I refuse to shop at Walmart. Shop local and support our club members too.0
-
Get it from Russmaas- he does a lot to support our hobby. Considerably more than Advance Auto Parts-0
-
Sorry if I may have offended some. I did call 21st Century, and was told they did not have the part. May be able to get one. He said he works on Hudsons and mine is a Nash. I'm finding out that my car may have a Hudson badge on it, it's still a Nash. Being a newbie to this Hudson/Nash blend, I feel as though I'm not welcome to your elite club. Sorry hdsn49 but I don't shop at Walmart, I try to shop local, Advance Auto is a 1/4 mile from my house. Local enough? Also I e-mailed a club member about a radio repair, never a reply.0
-
MikeWA, When I get the part I was going to give Russmaas a call and see about having the rest of the distributor overhauled. Next time I need to get something for my car I guess I have to check her first.0
-
I as well meant no offense to anyone either.
I obtained mine long before I knew of our wonderful club, its members, or the resources they provide.
I do my best to support any and all small businesses, unlike those that seem to get continually elected in all levels of our govt, and will continue to do so whenever I can. I dont support those 'officials' and unfortunately the ones that I believe WOULD support small businesses, our hobby etc. dont win often.
So their are obviously many, many more that need guidance as to whom they should be supporting and why!
OK, got carried away sorry. Nuff said.

"... our elite club"? Goodness, we're far from elite! This is about the friendliest club you could encounter. And we have gobs of "Kenosha Hudsons" in the club, as well as a special "interest group" focused on owners of the '55-'57 cars and their owners. It may seem that there's little discussion here of the Nash-based cars, but that's simply because of the numbers. Way, way more "Detroit Hudsons" around, so it's natural. Be assured you're quite welcome in this club.0

OK, I am just starting on a 54 Hudson that has the 308 installed. I am not sure what is involved in converting to electronic system. Could someone tell me what is new, what is rebuilt ect, in order to do the electronic system.0

Brownie: Just installed my Pertronix this past July. I had a shade tree mech do it for me down the street. I highly recommend the product. Make sure you look it up on the Pertronix website, so that you get the proper # for the 54. Mine is 54 cpe 308. I talked to the man at Pertronix and he said the part # was correct. You have to get the coil that goes along with it. They are a match..No grinding the starter with the Pertronix. Starts right up. More juice to the plugs. have to drill out one screw in the distributor. If you are mechanically inclined a simple install.

When I looked under the hood of my new hudson this weekend I noticed the coil was gone. This looks like a good time to give Russ a call.0

For those who like tinkering, and using the random parts scattered about their garage.... I made my own HEI ignition. I trigger a old HEI module from my GMC with the points through a simple signal reverse circuit which turns the break-to-fire of the points to make-to-fire of the HEI. Works like a champ. 12V only though, sorry fellas running 6V.0

I installed the Hudson distributor drive shaft into a Mopar slant six electronic distributor along with the hud advance weights and springs. Wired up the Mopar coil, control box and resistor to the 12 volt system, which is a must, and it works well. The vacuum advance must be cut back somewhat too. Bruce0

Just wanted to get back to the discussions about working with club members. Called 21st century and left a voice mail never a returned call. Called 2 different radio repair shops from the WTN never a returned call. Called about battery cables from the WTN never a returned call. What else can I do? I became a member because I have owned classic cars for 30yrs, I was lost when it came to Hudsons. The best info I have recieved is to join a Nash club. When my membership here runs out I will.0

MC, I hope that along with the (atypical) bad results you've had with certain Hudson folks, that you've also noted the tremendous help demonstrated here, day in and day out, by any number of Hudson Club members. Most of us try to be as helpful as we can, remembering that that's why the Club was established in the first place. Don't give up on us yet. PM me any time when you can't find what you're looking for.0

mcollins,
If you have not resolved your radio issue try S&M Electro-Tech
http://www.turnswitch.com
Speak with Greg he is very helpful and knowledgeable about radio's for our old cars.
Many people in the HETClub have used them with great success.
Don't give up on this club yet you will get the help you need.

By my research the 55 should have an Autolite IAT distributor in it. Check tag on dist. It uses the same Pertronix part # as 51- 54 6cylinder distributors. Can be had in either 12 volt # 1362 or 6 volt Positive ground # 1362P6..
Wells Ignition also makes an electronic conversion kit which is 6 volt. It is a different looking unit. Wells Part # ICC 125. Log on to Rock Auto Parts, look up your vehicle, go to ignition and conversion kit and you can see a picture of it. Cost $147.00. Awhile ago i Emailed Wells and was informed it was for 6 volt. You can also access it at Wells website. that is where I first found it.

Once in a while we do miss a call on our phones. Russ is a chiropractor & I am a funeral director. I say we get 98 percent. We sell our Pertronics for $139.00. You don't drill out one screw-you drill out two rivets. Some people give up and don't know how to dial a second time. We appreciate those that do. We do the best we can.

I bought mine directly from Pertronix, you have to drill out the rivet on the distributer but that isn't a problem. I bought a new coil from them while I was at it. Now I need to call them and find out what I need to do when I change the car over to 12 volt.0

About the elite club business, the Hash owners get that feeling sometimes. I know when I first started with the club I got that from some people, that, you don't own a real Hudson, it's an AMC, don't let it bother you, it's only a small percentage of members. Most of these guys will go out of your way to help you. The 55,56,57 were all the AMC Hudsons, the 55 has the same running gear and engine but the chassis is different, gauges are the same though. I'm going to convert my 55 over to 12 volt, even with the pertronix ignition it can be cranky starting sometimes. I put the fuel pump bypass line in mine to stop vapor lock on hot days, never had the problem again. I had a hard time finding a temp sending unit to work but finally got that issue resolved. If I can help you with anything let me know, I'm no expert but I know this 55 pretty good. Also remember that the 55-57's are lot rarer than the early 50's Hudsons just because they didn't sell as many.0

Just got my distributer back from Advanced Electrical Rebuilders in Grand Ledge MI 517-345-7272. I supplied the Pentronix kit, $65.00 labor, testing, shipping. Jason keep me up to speed on the job by answering every phone call and e-mail. I would use him again0
