Are Hudson speedometer cables the same for the standard transmissions. Meaning will a speedometer cable from a 3 speed hornet work on a 3 speed truck. I know the speedometers are totally different, but can the actual cable inter change. Thanks

  • yes they will interchange
  • While we're on the speedo cable topic, what's the best lube for these cables?
  • i thought he was talking of cable only , when i bought my new cable it was cable only no gear. sorry i misunderstood question. so can i take gear out of a 51 three speed and put it in my hydromatic and have the correct ratio to make my speedo read correct
  • no i didn't change rear end , and the donor car is now gone ,what to do next
  • These are the gears I have. The one on the left (longer one) fits my cable and spins the cable. It does not seem to fit in the transmission. It sticks out too far. Is there more to installing the gear than just dropping it in, maybe I am missing the trick to getting the gear to seat properly

The long shaft gear looks like the ones used in the 1941-early 1952 Hudson trans.
Short one looks like those used in the Borg warner trans. used by Hudson from 1952-56+

    Any other opinions??

  • The transmission is a 2 lever T86e. When I got it I was told it came from a 54 Hornet. Unfortunately it came with the gear, but not a cable. The cable I have is from a 46 super six with a drivemaster transmission. So maybe I need a different cable?
