Pacemaker Steering whel removal and rear fender inserts
Hi all, I have two questions today
I want to remove the steering wheel so it can be put back on to line up straight. The last thing I want to do is damage it. What is the safest method? I do not have any specialised tools for this but could get pulley pullers if that is what is used.
Secondly, the rear fender inserts appear to have had something stapled to the upper lip that goes behind the fender when being installed. What was it that was stapled along this lip?
Thanks in advance

Before you remove the steering wheel, remove horn button and lift up the horn wire connection and see where the notch is on the steering shaft. Then turn wheel till notch it a 6 o'clock, straight down, then spokes should be a 3 ad 9 o'clock, if yes, then you have to adjust the tie rods for wheels going straight ahead. This set the steering box at dead center so there is no free play in the box. This is important for if off center, you will have trouble keeping the car in a straight line. Walt.0

Yes, get a puller at the parts store.Have to have one. You will find this an easy job to do and get every thing work as it should.0

The staples held a thin flap of rubber that went over that top lip and just made a gasket. Dont want metal to metal on those,

Along the lines of what Walt is saying - Why is the wheel not straight? did you change something ? Replace a part ? Or has it been like this since you have had it ?
Any way if you do pull the wheel off dont leave the retainer nut off. Loosen it and leave it just above the wheel hub. About half the wheels I pull off with my puller come off with a "Bang". I f you dont have the nut there to stop it , its coming after you,

You can find "U" shaped rubber like that from places like Metro rubber by the foot,

Thanks for your responses guys - helps a lot.
Roger, the wheel is at 1 & 7 currently and has been since I got it.
Will check the notch that Walt mentions as it may have been installed off centre by the previous owner who had everything totally disassembled.0 -
Steering wheel is off and will get it all lined up tonight. Really appreciate all your help.0
