I came across this coupe for sale on Craigslist in NY. They've already started to street rod it, but it's early yet and maybe it could be brought back. It looks like they're asking $3,000.

Looks like he's down to $2500. Seems unbelievable to me that some Hudson guy hasn't snapped this up already!

The clock is ticking on this one. Someone who loves crate engines and air bags is just a click or two away from finding it. How many inches will he chop out of the top?

I'd suggest a chop that brings the windshield to the same height it is in the '34-35 convertible bodies. After all, that is what all the sales brochure art has for those two years.

Ineresting how they did stuff like that. A lot of the art work made certain models look longer than they were too. Well if the company thought the car looked better longer ,or in your case lower .Why not make it that way in the first place ?

I hope you know I was being sarcastic. I don't think it needs to be chopped. It's just that is what some people do to fine old cars when they install crate engines, Mustang II suspension, etc.

@James P. : I spent years looking for the body parts I needed for my 34 Terraplane. I eventually spent thousands having what I had repaired. The front end and motor had already been modified to a mustang II and crate 350 when I bought the car. Restoring it to original condition at that point would have cost 5 tmes what the car would have been worth. I then chopped the top. I think it makes the car look better myself. I'm not a purist, I'm a rodder. But I'm sick of all the 34 Fords getting all the attention. I think a nicely rodded Hudson will help show what can be done to save whats left of an old rusted Terraplane rather than scraping it! Don't be so hard on the rodder.

I am building a 34 Hudson Coupe and sent an email willing to pay his asking price for the 35 coupe, but he never returned my email nor did he call, not sure what is up but I could use some of the parts for mine. How much did you chop the top on your 34, dustymaxhudson, it looks awesome. I am in the same position as you, cost to much money to return to original so I will keep the body original just lower it on a built frame with new suspension. Making some progress this winter.

Well I went and picked this one up, just so you know. Figured people would want to know what ended up happening to it. I believe this car is the one that was part of a pair that was on the HAMB board down in FL a while back.

Ok ask and you shall receive, it is really tough. I wish I had some really good floor pans for this and the 34 conv. I bought the stuff that is available on ebay while it is better than nothing it still leaves something to be desired. The floors are shot in this one, the work he tried to do on the door, well lets just say it will have to come off. I am slightly intimidated because the conv has been channeled and that has to be undone and this floor is almost not there. On the plus the outer upper body is strait, it came with a nice radiator and gas tank, a RT taillight, nice 34 shell, decent deck lid, some misc 34/5 parts. A bird and base, nice hood sides. The back fenders are tough, no running boards, rear filler is junk. The car is a non vent window trunk coupe so it is cool in it's own right. The gent who owned it was a nice guy and he worked with me, I may have paid too much for what it is, who knows. Mark

Cool project, I've seen sicker dogs get better. What is a non vent window? Are you refering to the wind wings? Didn't they roll down into the door?

That door patch panels looks to have been tack welded in with flux core MIG. I've had to clean up the mess after a few well meaning patch panel attempts like that. If I come across that now, I don't even try and fix it, I just cut all off about an inch up, and don't look back.

Does it have five lug wire wheels? Can't tell for sure in the picture.

Yes instead of wind wings when you roll the window a bit it steps back and cracks open a bit on the leading edge so you can get a sort of wind wing effect. There is a filler on the trailing edge of the window opening that allows that. the wheels are regular terraplane 17 inch wires, I brought those with me, along with the axle flex to load it. I plan on doing the chop to that work. It did come with a 33-4-5 hudson 16 inch wire in the trunk and what I think is a complete set of latches and hinges for a 35 bustle back, more bustle stuff to go on the shelf as I have nothing I will ever use it on. The big factor on this is going to be floors, because they are so bad I need to find something better, a whole floor pan would be nice, but I can't bring myself to cut up a car over one. I will take more pics when it stops raining, it has rained since I brought it home. Mark

I know what you mean about sacrificing one car to complete another. I don't like that idea either. But I also understand that some people don't want to take the time, money, and effort to build a new floor.

I have templates to make this in to a rumble seat car the plans and templates have been used 2 times both cars turned out great tom russel from ohio and tom apple in eari pa. both used the templates tom was the guy who made them he is a air craft tec he use aircraft alum. to make the hindges if some one wants a set i could fix the up THEY WILL WORK ON 34 OR 35 NOT SURE ABOUT OTHER YEARS
