Hello everyone,

I was wondering if one of you know the procecure to remove the fender trim on a 1952 hornet, the one that separates the fender from the body (see red arrow). I have decided the front clip needs to come out to do a better job on the restoration but I'm not sure how to remove the trim.

Thank you much,
Jairo.

I use a Red Devil paint scraper. Place blade under bottom of molding and pry out short section each pry.

It's a good idea to soak it with penetrating oil a couple days before you try.
There is usually rust build up on the retainer.

Thanks for the advice. I got it out prying a little at a time but in the end the trim got bent. I don't think it's such a big deal with this piece as it will be painted and I can repair any dings. But I will have to be more careful with the stainless steel trim.

As for penetrating oil, yes I think i'll do that next time. There is a LOT of rust there specially in the retaining clip. In fact getting the screws out was a bigger job.

Do you know of any article or literature that talks about removing the rest of the trim? I will need to remove everything for a proper paint job.

    Thanks again,
    Jairo.
  • That type of paint scraper is best ,causes least damage to trim,

I am not sure how everyone else does it, but I only work on one edge of the trim.....when you get to the end, the other edge falls off.
