VIN # correction question

I hope someone here has Ca. DMV knowledge. I live in California. I acquired a 47 Hudson PU in Ca. and I need some knowledge what to ask the DMV how to correct a wrong vin # on registration paperwork. The PU has a Ambassador 6 cyl engine. I thought maybe someone used the engine number for vin #. Not so lucky no match. The truck has the original Vin tag but turns out the paperwork has 1947 Hud PU, Ca. license plate number registered to the truck, but has a 1949 Commador 8 vin number (49452391) on the registration paperwork.

Help!

    Lee,
Go to the DMV and explain your situation. They have the necessary forms you will need to fill out. Now, here's the bad part; it used to be that a CHP officer would come to your home to inspect for the "hidden" serial # on the frame (they have books that will identify the location), Now though, you have to take the vehicle to the DMV, or find an individual that is registered in the state of CA to perform inspections and is also a "notary". This will cost you money ($100 -150 bucks, if you can find an individual).

Best bet, if you can, is to first get the needed paper work from the DMV. Fill it out, then make an appointment with them to inspect the car, and then, haul it to the DMV on a trailer. Been there, done that...
