Wow, how time changes things! They used to give away these things as door prizes, at H-E-T meets! (That, and NOS bumper guards for Step-Downs!) Seems like everyone had them for sale. Who knew they'd command a price like $254, one day!

Maybe a factor in the scarcity is the fact that it's being sold from England. Not a lot of battery fillers over there!

    Nobody has bought it yet!
  • Yes Jon, seems as tho Bill Bade had a building full of the assy. bumper guards. I remember one national meet, they were giving them as door prizes..

Yes , Bill had bought a Hudson Distributor that sold to Hudson dealers. The accessories
didn't sell to well in the old days. He would give out the battery fillers and bumper guard kits,
he had to many to sell them all. I remember buying NOS quarter panels for my convertible from
him for $25.00 each. And he apologized for some light surface rust.
Oh , by the way , this was 1970!

How 'bout them good old days? About three years ago, I needed a 2DR Quarter Panel for my convertible and gave $400 for a USED one . . . and it had dents in it! Don't get me wrong, though, I felt I was lucky to have found it. What a difference 40 years will make.

Horsehocky - I sold one of those to a fellow for $10. Of course that was back in the 1970's.

I bought out the stock of the Cortez, Colo. dealership, "door knob to door knob" for $500 40 years ago, LOL.

I'd read the price as $25 when I first posted it. When I looked again and saw $254 my jaw dropped!
  • Jeez, I have two of those. One complete with everything in the box I bought on eBay several years ago for around $20.00 and the other, which is just the square bottle with caps, I bought at a Hudson meet for around $3.00. Is there a Hud-Nut out there that doesn't have at least one of these?

Yeah, Pete, and in the 60's and 70's a fellow by the name of Larry Wellman was buying out dealers all over the Northeast and New York paying $5 a box for Hudson parts. i went with him one time to a place called Carolina, Rhode Island, to clean out a dealer. I had a 1½ ton Dodge flat bed for the big stuff like fenders, doors etc, towing a trailer; Mike Elwell was driving a pickup Larry had with a trailer. And Larry was driving a 1952 Hornet sedan. We filled both trucks, both trailers, and Larry's car plus he had a whole bunch of chrome trim lashed to a roof rack on the sedan. As I recall it cost Larry about $400 bucks - this was in 1973 or 74.
Only thing he dealer wouldn't sell was the literature - he had a bunch of it. Said he might need it someday. And you can stay up all night scratching your head over that one.
