Engine Casting Number

How do you tell the difference between 232 and 262 wide blocks,does anyone know the casting numbers used?
Going by the head is hard if the head was changed at a point in time.

    Look at the head markings, the block is the same, only crank and pistons different.
    Or check the Stamped serial number on the top Right front corner. if it matches the body the
    id is positive.

    The quickest way would be to determine if the engine has a single barrel carb or a two barrel carb. 262 = 2 bl & 232 = 1 bl.
