Time to Install the Gas Tank!

Ok guys the tank has been pulled, boiled, and sealed and is now ready to be put back in my 46 Commodore 8. The thing is, this was all taken apart and redone by the previous owner. I have the straps, new float, all that good stuff. But I'm a little confused on what goes where though I thought it would be obvious. Of course the float goes in the larger hole on the top of the tank, and I'm pretty sure that the fuel line goes to the hole in the bottom (though the connector at the end of the fuel line is round and the connector on the tank is square, so I'm guessing that's going to be an issue). So what is the hole next to the float level hole for? I have attached pictures. I had hoped for a little more info or a diagram in the "Mechanical Procedures" book, but no luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

  • Also for the straps I have one thin strap, and one strap which is attached to a rather wide piece of metal. I thought I could tell by the grooves int he tank which goes on which side....I think the thin one goes on the passenger side and the thick one on the drivers side, is that right?
  • The bottom of the tank.....

The hole in the bottom is the drain, the hole next to the sender is where the fuel pickup goes.

Your pic shows the drain plug. Gas line attaches to a fitting that matches the holes next to
the gauge float hole. The strap with the Heat shield goes to the right side as it is to protect the tank from the exhaust pipe which would be directly under it.

  • So as usual I have everything reversed of what it actually is! Hahahaha
  • I have a long tube going to the fuel filter and then on up inti the engine bay. That was feeding into a gas can.
  • Nevermind guys I figured it all out found the missing parts in a box!
