Not the shell? Just the grill?0

Yes just grill, sorry should have been clearer.
Of course if someone had the chrome trim for the top of shell that would be great too! I have the bird and the Hudson emblem.
Hey bent metal could I pick your brain? Seems you are a metal master, thanks for your posts here fantastic work. I need to replace some metal on my fender. Sometime in it's life it has sat upsidedown with water in it so very thin at top of crown. Would you recomend tig or mig weld in a new piece? Thanks0 -
Try Carl Weber. I am sure he one for sale on ebay a month or two back that did not reach reserve. Sorry, I do not have Carl's details.0

TIG, without a doubt. ...And thanks for the compliment on my work. I appreciate that.
Though I don't understand why, MIG seems to get hard, TIG doesn't. So you can hammer out any weld distortion on the TIG weld. With the MIG weld you might get some cracking along the weld when you hammer it. ALso, the TIG weld is tiny, the MIG weld is big and difficult to get even penetration. So with MIG you end up spending a lot of time grinding.
I've actually had to do what your talking about. But on a '27. I'll see if I can find pictures.0 -
Not the same as '35, I know. I had a wired edge to deal with. If your damage/thin metal extends into the detail the surrounds the wheel opening, you might have to make some beads. Could be challenging. This '27 had the fender left upside down as yours, and filled with water. The wire was okay, so I primed it and wrapped a new fender around the original wire. This was on my Dad's boat tail. If your interested in the car, there is a thread on here in the hot rod area.0

Hi "JHudson", no you were clear. I just know of a shell, not a grill. So thought I would ask.0

Thanks Lucky Phil, I must have missed the one on ebay, darn! I seen a couple Terraplane ones. I had the pleasure of meeting Carl in Gettysburg and he didn't have one.
Thank you too bent metal, tig it will be. I seen that thread of fender repair and more!! Big project, fantastic car and work. I'm tempted to hunt for a boat tail when I'm done my 35, cool cars.
Can I ask if you are a english wheel or planishing hammer fan? Seems like there is two trains of thought out there.0 -
There was a 35 Hudson grill for sale a few years back at the Nebraska national. I believe the seller was Wayne Heise from Minnesota. The grill was NOS. Another person who might have one is Sam Ramsey in Tennesee. Sam buys and sells 34-35 Hudson parts.0

Most of (90%) my shaping I do on an english wheel. The other ten, or less, is on a Yoder. My friend has one and he has been kind enough to let me use it once in a while. I just can't afford a Yoder of my own. The english wheel is also silent, which helps since I'm in a residential neighborhood. When I run the Yoder (over at his place), it's so loud you can feel it in your feet as the ground vibrates. It's louder than the trains when they pass by, and he is only about fifteen or twenty feet from the tracks. ...The planishing hammer is really just for smoothing, not so much shaping.0

Thanks for tip Wisconsin Hud, I talked to Wayne, real nice guy (not surprized) he has Terraplane stuff but no Hudson. Sam must be a busy guy voice mail box full.
Also thanks for input Bent Metal. I have been looking at buying an small english wheel for my project.0 -
Same doesn't have one either. Any leads appreciated. Tks0
