The guide studs are merely headless bolts. Remove the 2 top bell housing bolts and screw in the guide bolts. Remove the rest of the bell housing bolts and slide the bell housing off.

My guide studs are 2 different lengths, 6" and 5 1/2" which makes life easier when reinstalling the bell housing. Can't remember the bolt size or thread count, but if you remove one of the top bolts that will give you the information.

In other words you can make guide studs yourself. Cut the heads off some old bolts that have the thread size of the bolts you remove. Then take a hack saw and put a screw driver notch in the end of the bolt so you can remove them after putting up the trans. Simple really.

The guide pins for the wheels are missing from a couple Hudson's. A real hard time trying to mount the tire and wheel without them. Went to a hardware store, bought a couple long half inch fine thread bolts, cut off the heads and wow, they make great guide pins. I eventually learned to do the same with transmission bolts, really makes installation much easier. Arnie in Nevada.

OK LETS TRY THIS ONCE AGAIN....AND I'LL TRY TO BE MORE SPECIFIC

I WANT TO FASHION GUIDE PINS TO REMOVE A 3 SPEED TRANSMISSION FROM THE BELL HOUSING WHILE THEY ARE BOTH ATTACHED UNDER THE CAR...

WHAT SIZE AND LENGTH BOLTS DO I NEED TO ACCOMPLISH THIS

ALSO WHIT SIZE BOLTS DO I NEED TO REMOVE THE BELL HOUSING FROM THE ENGINE WHILE IT IS STILL ATTACHED.

    HOPE THAT HELPS,

    TOM

Tom, it sounds like you've got a '52 or later car with "2-lever" transmission. Correct? As generally described above, remove one of the tranny-to-bell housing bolts as a sample, find two more just like it but 2" longer, and make them into guide bolts.

I'D LIKE TO HAVE THE GUIDE STUDS MADE BEFORE I START REMOVAL THUS IT WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW THE SIZE OF THE BOLTS I'M DEALING WITH.

SOMEONE MUST KNOW THE BOLT SIZES??

There are four big bolts there, Tom ... you can take one out and use it for a reference for the correct size.
