Hello Hudson folks!! Needing a little help from our Hudson community. Looking for a rear end to go in 52 hudson Hornet. It is the later rear end Type "P" it is identified by a housing with a bolted cover. It needs to be out of a car with a hydramactic tranny. It is the rear end they used from 52 to 54. I will drive if close enough. I live in Lindstrom MN 55045. Contact info 651-9191 or cell 651-492-9285 Thanks for any help!!

That is a DANA 44 rear you are looking for with the 3:08 gear ratio for hydra-matic transmission. There are plenty around. My friend just bought 2 complete units to install in his 2 overdrive Hudson Hornet cars. A job for me if I get back on my feet. Best all around, stay in third gear till 45-50 MPH, then overdrive. You will be buying a lot less gas. That rear started in the second series 1952. Walt.0

Walt is right about 45-50MPH before overdrive. I did this in 1963 to my 52 Hornet. Drove it to Hamilton, Ohio. Clutch started to slip at low speeds. eventually had to replace clutch plate. I also lost top speed. I was out run by a 56 Ford. Put the original rear end back in and out run the Ford at a later time. There may have been other factors involved but, I think the 3.08 ratio is to high for a car with overdrive. Just my opinion.0

Has anyone put the older version in this year car? and what were the complications? I had done it many years ago and had to change the drive shaft. But using the entire diff/axel, springs and all, I think we had few problems. Can't remember back that far, but I know we did it, cuz we raced them alot and saved the dana for the drags and destruction derby. [ SORRY ABOUT THOSE], We used up Borgs for the fig 8's and circle. They would not stand up to dragging or derbys, neither did the smaller clutches. But cork was fine, if it was a 2 lever set up and full of fluid and ya did not ride it. Just wondering if anyone is as old as me and remembers what else was needed.
