door hinge lubrication

I was looking at my 54 door hinges and was wondering if I could put a temporary grease fitting in the factory suppied 1/4 hole at the pin. I took a 1/4 20 tap and gave it a few threads and installed a fitting and it worked great. Looks like it would be tough to do on the car, so this would only work while the hinge or door was off the car.

I cant see that it would hurt anything ,however once greased you probably need to keep it up. Oil may not work its way in after that. However the grease fitting could be screwed back in to lube the pin then removed I suppose ,

Great idea! Oil is so messy, and drips down the frame.0

you could use a grease that has a high creep rate like they
use on car hoist chains etc
my 2 cents worth

Shop I used to work at had a rubber tip that attached to the grease gun and worked the same way, without having to tap in a zerk fitting. Just had to hold the gun tight to the hinge and make sure it was over the hole.0
