Hi All,
I am wondering about my 54' if she had a dual carbs... she does have a 308, but no Twin-H badge on the rear.

I am not sure there is any way to know. I do not see any of the brackets and with the intake missing any guess is a good one. With that said, it does not matter. If you want twin H, buy it and install it.

I would bet, based on the lack of throttle linkage brackets, that it was a single carb engine. I'm curious about the unit hanging off the firewall next to the driver's side horn. Is that part of a Power Brake assembly?
  • Brownie is right ,no sign it was there .You have the power brake set up however,

View the attached picture and comments. Confirming original configuration is difficult at best. When you have some idea that the remaining elements are original to the Hudson, that configuration will at times point you to what you seek.

The vacuum tank is for the power brake system.

thank you Oldfarmer for guiding me in the right direction, but i'll have to check that out this summer when I move the car back home. That is if I can get the hood open again... Lee made sure it was closed for transport.

We also figured this car had a power brake system, so this is going to be a learning experience to restore it.

looks like a twin H car (no telling wether factory, dealer or later)as there are many twin h indicators but no tell tale single garb signs.

as old farmer mentions it looks like a twin h linkage rod there. the bell crank on a twin h is stepped where a single carb is an "L". it does not look like you have the tab for the single carb on your coil bracket. also your heater hose to the head is through a 45 degree fitting which is correct for twin H (single was straight). the vaccum advance kline looks like its wants to go to a front carb. single carb manifolds don't typically disappear from otherwise complete cars

    Tim,
the trunk was empty, only a hub cap in it.

thanks Nick S, for the advice! It probably is a dual carb but I am still going to take measurements out of curiosity when I get her home.

My problem is that the head looks like it's been on the car a long time but there are no twin-H air cleaner brackets, the rear one would be attached with a head bolt, and the main linkage brackets are missing. If it was a Twin-H, it was a long time ago. My guess is that it was a single carb. The Treadle-vac brake booster is rebuildable, I suspect any Treadle vac will work as the Hudson brackets were adapted to the back of the booster.
