This is a really cool Terraplane
There can't be many of these around! Would love to drop a 308 in this one!

Don't agree with either street rodding or dropping a 308 in this one - this is a utility coupe with the sliding box in the trunk. Ain't many of them around. So keep it as original as possible.

a 1937 Terraplane Utility Coupe is on my Wish List.... and I agree with Alex, keep her stock to preserve her history.0

That thing is awesome!! Any idea what they are asking?0

Putting a 308 in this car could be done - It's on a 115" wb - I know of a fellow in Mass. who stuffed a 308 in a 1934 Hudson - with a 116" wb. His sone said later the only thing the car wouldn't do was stop. Actually in theory you can put anything into anything - tho maybe trying to stuff an Invader engine into, say, a Crosley would be pushing it a little.
I sort of had that problem (stopping in a hurry) with the 38-40 Dodge coupes I put 1953 small block hemi egines in. You could get away with in 1953!!!! Weren't all that many cars the road to run into back then.

I don't like rodding decent cars and of course this is one. If it were a non-running vehicle with issues I don't have a problem, although I like to keep a make as whole as possible, so no SBC in a Hudson product. There was a guy out in our area (Delaware) that had a cool orange 37 Terraplane 2 door sedan that he rodded and it was a really nice job, but with a SBC. My dream it to one day to a '36 or '37 Terraplane with the 308 w/ Clifford 3 x 2 Weber manifold and head. I have the pieces just someday need the car.0

<<<< agrees with 50C8; a utility coupe very rare shouldn't be screwed up into a hot rod; if they want a hot rod, get a Fraud (my opinion), no LOL0

FYI
A 308 motor into a Terraplane can be done as I have one in mine coupled to an automatic. It required a lttle notch in the firewall, trim the front crossmember for the damper & pully, then slide the radiator forward inside the straps while installing a new Core. It really wasnt too dificult. I stiffened the front springs, but dont think was necessary because that little 3x5 weighed pretty similar to the 308.... Cant seem to post picture tonight....0 -
I'd keep it stock unless the engine was a paperweight. But why a 308? Why not a Jet 202. It's probably work a lot better and you could paint it silver and no non Hudson guy would know?0

difinitely looks like a 36. Its a wonder it wasn't advertise as a Hornet. lol0

A 36 is a different body. The doors open from the front. First one I've seen with a 36 grille.
I would like to know the story and process. I didn't think they would interchange as every thing else is different from 36 to 370 -
Interesting, I agree 37 body but 36 grill with 37 style headlight mounted on grill not fenders. Is there a chance this was done in the factory using up last years parts? I suspect 36-37 front fenders preety much same except headlight mount holes. Much the same as 34-35 fenders are.
Ya keep it original, not sure how many utility coupes were made but can't be that many left.0
