On The Road

Maybe this was already on another thread or in the WTN I'm not sure but I just saw a movie that was recently released on DVD "On The Road" based on a Jack Kerouac Novel which features a Hudson heavily. I never read the novel (was meaning to) but I did read in an old WTN that the Hudson car was featured in the original novel and I'm surprised Hollywood actually cared enough to be true to the novel insofar as including a Hudson in the movie and not just substituting in just any old classic car like a lot of historical movies do. From the trailer it looks to be a '48-'49 Hudson.

Aaron, the interesting thing about the book, which is really about men behaving badly, is that it is written in "jazz." I hadn't read it since high school and a couple of years ago, "old hudsons" (on this forum) was reading it and he lent me his copy and I re-read it. I had wondered why Kerouac was such a breakthrough writer? I noticed as I read that my foot was tapping and I got it. It has a beat and a timing, it is no wonder that Kerouac refused to let them edit his work, it would screw up the timing. I also made an attempt, years ago, to read his Dharma Bums! Completely unreadeable. He wrote it on a thirty foot long continuous piece of butcher paper and no editting, I think that he was losing it. I do plan to see the On the Road movie, just for the cars!0

No likely not a kids movie. A lot of people don't really understand the whole Beatnik thing either.... short an era though it was. But looks like some great scenes in that Hudson anyways that give you the idea of why people considered it such a hot car in those days. Anyone know if it was an HET members car ?0

Aside from "men behaving badly" the book is a window on the beat generation of that era. As I recall, there are a couple references to "Hudson Hornet", but since it's been several years since I read the book I can't remember. It was, I believe a 1948 Hudson - that is the year given in the book, as I recall. Again, trying to dredge up a memory as I recall the car was abandoned on a street in Denver - I don't think it's still there, tho.

It's not still there on the Denver street . . . John Soneff located it and restored it. :O0 -
RL, That thought crossed my mind after I posted that item. :P Probably the car that started the Soneff collection.

They made three of the movies over the years. It seems that this one has kept up the tradition from what you say. I did make $1400 from the one filmed in Ogden. New tires for the 32 Chev coupe. I was once a Chev man.....0
