What do you guys think about this type of Hudson Restoration?
Hi All,
Not my car but curious what you guys think:

To me, while this is very cool in many ways, it's also not really a Hudson anymore other than the sheet metal.

It is not a "restoration" (put back to original).
It is a "hot rod" (modified performance from original) and if built with quality engineering and workmanship is a heckuva deal at that price.0 -
Yes I meant "restoration" sarcastically hahaha. But even though I think it has lost a lot of what made it a Hudson, for that price seems like a great deal. And i agree, that interior has got to go! 8-}0

cookie cutter SBC engine kills it for me, no need to ever pop the hood at a show as there are way too many just like it.0
-
I agree with you Chris. While the SBC definitely has its place, I don't like seeing it in a Hudson. For me the Straight 8 is the only way to go0

HE SAYS THE FRONT CLIP IS NOT PAINTED IT IS A LOT FOR THE MONEY BUT I JUST CAN'T SEE WHY I WOULD WANT TO BUY IT IT'S NOT FOR ME0
-
That's the thing about street rods, you're personal taste will probably not be a buyers personal taste. I have a friend that has over 50,000.00 in a 53 Studebaker that is a very nice car but he can't get a bite on it at 20,000.00. If he had spent the money to restore it back to factory specs or close to it, as nice as it is he would recoup way more of his money.
As far as the one you have the link for, I would have to change too many things to suit myself.0 -
@Kdancy....ouch! not even a bite? Also (and I could be wrong) but possibly rodding Hudsons and Studes is an even harder sell because you kind of alienate the Hudsonites on one hand, and on the other hand street rodders are going "it's interesting but I'd rather have one of the 'me too'marque rods instead".0

Looks like a nice job but, not my cup of tea so I guess my comment would be---Yuck what a waste.

Agree with you Syd....if you are starting with NOTHING I mean no drive train, front end, etc. etc. I can see maybe going the SBC route and customizing. What I've noticed so far is Hudson parts are scarce (and that's putting it kindly) and when you do find them they are 5x to 10x the cost of a similar GM/Mopar/Ford piece. So I can see doing some custom work there.
For example my Hudson has no interior except the dash and front seat so I am going to do the interior "my way".0 -
Syd, I think I,ve seen that car at a regional meet a few years ago and I think a Mr. Forrester is the man that did it. Absolutly great car and the job done is outstanding to me. If I remember right he used a semi trailer to paint the car in. Interior was super nice. I sure wouldn't mind owning and driving it!

I Love it "ME TOO ROD"... That says it all.. Dang it.. put a Mopar or a Fraud or Packard power plant in it, but the "obligatory" small block Cheby kills it for me.0
-
$50,000 wasted.0

It is a nice car but that interior and small block chevy are horible. Definately not worth the 20k and that is not 50k in that car.0
-
Just buy a Chevy!0

Taste is a funny thing. I have a hot rod (28 Essex Roadster Pick up) that someone is always trying to buy from me for high offers. I restored a rare 1936 Hudson Stratton Sport Saloon two years ago and decided to put it up for sale and can get nothing but low bids... 55K would take it, but it continues to be a no sale.0

It is all a matter of taste. I completely respect the ones with the ability to make a street rod. I don't have that ability and have friends that can and have done it. Fun to look at. A few years ago I know of a person who took a near mint, drivable, 31 Essex coupe and put a small block v8 in it. Totally redid the body. I would not do that to any car that nice. (even a GM product) lol. When I ask him what he did with all the original parts he told me he junked them. Made me kind of sick. I know its his car and money but still what a waste.0

Looks real nice but not for me
