Installing Heater Box

I am installing the heater box into my 53 Hornet and need some help. There is a copper wire (thermocouple?) that runs into or around the heater box from what I believe is a temperature adjuster located behind the glove box . Can someone tell me where it goes? Thanks!

That is the sensor for your Ranco valve, which is part of the big copper mount that bolts into the firewall. It should just hang in front of the heater so it can sense the temperature and transmit back to valve. Have you had the Ranco valve rebuilt. There is a guy on east coast and one on westcoast who rebuilds these. It is a good idea to have it done, as if it gives out, it is messy.
  • joe53HH, I'm the guy on the East Coast lol. The copper capillary tube goes to the Ranco heater control valve. Please don't puncture this line. Chances are good that if it's origional, it will need a seal replacement and adjustment. If so I can do it. If you don't , chances are real good that it will pee all over your new carpet. My specialty is any type of Ranco or Harrison but Hudsons are a priority.

And don't place it in front of the heater; place it where it can sense the temp in the car, not the air coming immediately out of the heater ports.

So I'm thinking I should run the car with the heater on before I put the heater box (i.e. blower motor) in and before I install the new carpet. I don't want it to pee on my new shoes either. Thanks for the information from all of you. Hudzilla please send me your email just in case I have problems with it. My address is HUDjoecronin@prodigy.net (drop the HUD).

    Thanks again!

I plumbed the heater on the Pacemaker the other day and have been keeping a watch for leaks from the Ranco valve - being RHD it will be my feet that get wet! :)
