Front Royal
Had a great time down in Front Royal and met great Hudson folk all weekend. It was nice to meet new people and we appreciated all the nice comments on our 48 Commodore.
The people giving thumbs up all the way there and back over 1278 trouble free miles was such a thrill.
The mountains are a test for the driver and the car and both passed even with very high winds and some snow on the way home.
Thanks to all who helped put on a great meet.

I had the great pleasure to meet Paul and Sarah in Front-Royal. We connected already. Paul is very funny! His car is in great shape and they even plan to come in Compton Qc next August. Putting up the Welcome Center, I met Dave Solon who was very proud of a panoramic picture somebody took from his garage and a nice alignement of Hudsons. Also met Dick Teeter and Mary-Ann. For those who know Dick, you know he is always connected to his I-Phone. As you can see, I ''fixed'' the problem...( I think that's what they do in Dracula movies...). Great cars, nice people and a lot of fun! Can't wait for San Mateo to meet my forum friends from the west. Michel0

48Sed:I'm glad you took pictures. When I came home, I noticed the card for my camera was...in my computer! Next time ( San Mateo) I'll have two cards! Michel0

Michel, if your camera doesn't warn you that there's no card installed, maybe you need a new camera! LOL0

I think the problem was more in my brain that time. Too excited to go to the Eastern Regional!
Was glad to see you again! Michel0 -
HI ALL. SO MANY HAVE ASKED FOR THE INFO ON MAKING DOC'S SUPER SIX PUNCH. GWEN HARTONG LOOKED IN HER FILES AND FOUND DOC'S ORIGINAL POSTING, THIS WAS PRINTED IN THE WTN JULY-AUGUST 1978
THIS IS BY DOC DAUGHERTY "HE SAID I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS CONCOCTION. IT WAS ORIGINATED BY A WW I GENERAL HERE IN TOWN ( FRONT ROYAL) WHO WAS FOND OF THE GOOD LIFE AND ONE OF THE LAST OF THE OLD-SCHOOL VIRGINIA GENTLEMEN. I OBTAINTED THE RECIPE FOR THE FIRST SKYLINE CAVERNS MEET. IT WAS SERVED AT THE APPLE BLOSSOM MEET WHEN IT WAS DUBBED ''SUPER SIX PUNCH' COULD IT BE BECAUSE IT IS SO SMOOTH AND POWERFUL? I HAVE OVER THE YEARS SERVED THIS POTION TO SERVERAL GROUPS AND IT ALWAYS RECEIVES RAVES. JUST SO IT WON'T BE LOST AND ALSO SO OTHERS MAY USE IT" HERE IS THE RECIPE:
6 FIFTHS OF BOURBON
4 FIFTHS OF WHITE SWEET WINE
2 LARGE FROZEN ORANGE JUICE
2 LARGE FROZEN LEMONADE
MIX WELL AND ALLOW TO STAND FOR SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE SERVING SO THE INGREDIENTS MAY BLEND. MIX HALF AND HALF WITH GINGER ALE SERVE IN A PUNCH BOWL OVER A BLOCK OF ICE . CUBES MELT TOO FAST AND DILUTE. TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE SUPER, I EPOXIED A HANDLE TO A NOS HUDSON SUPER SIX HUB CAP AND USE IT AS A LADLE. NOTE THAT WITH THE ICE,THERE ARE SIX INGREDIENTS. SUPER-SIX ALL THE WAY! SERVES ABOUT ONE HUNDRED.

YOWZAH! That'll make your hair curl..................even if you're bald!
Two cups of that and the only way down the back steps at the firehouse is to fall down. LOL

I somehow missed the origin of the punch until now; thanks for that info, Paul. Its provenance (Front Royal, early 20th century) endears it to me even more than its taste!
In this age of constant change, it's nice to have a 50-year-long event like Doc's Meet, with its traditions, sacred ground (the Skyline Caverns), familiar faces, shrines (the bronze H-E-T plaque at the Caverns) and ancient libations.0 -
