I HAVE A 1954 HUDSON WASP WITH 3 SPEED DUAL LEVER OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION

JUST INSTALLED A NEW CLUTCH AND PRESSURE PLATE AND THROW OUT BERING AND PILOT BERING

NO MATTER WHAT WE DO TO ADJUST THE CLUTCH THE CAR EITHER WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING
OR IT WILL ONLY GO INTO SECOND AND 3RD AND IT GRINDS..

ANY INSIGHT OR RECOMMENDATIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED

THANKS

TOM

i had to get my clutch shaft rebuilt and new bushings a while back because my clutch wouldn't release enough. really took care of my problem. hope you don't have to do the same and pull the tranny.

Okay, how much free movement do you have at the pedal? Should be about an inch. How thick a gasket did you put in? Should be at least 1/32" How much fluid did you put in? Should only be 1/6 of a pint. If you put the car in gear and start engine with fut on the clutch, does it creep? It could be any of these factors. good luck

What overall thickness did the corks end up, what height did you make the fingers from the top of the throat when compressed.??? As Geoff said what thickness is the gasket between the pressure plate & Flywheel.

The best part is, you can give yourself a full refund and swear to take your business elsewhere next time :) Seriously though, kudos for doing it. I'm sure you'll get it straightened out with the knowledge from the experts here.

I WOULD TRY MAKEING THE ADJUSTMENT ROD LONGER OR SHORTER BEFORE I RIPPED IT ALL APART

Tom-WA, if you give us some answers to the questions asked here, some one may be able to help you. You have to have ALL the measurements and gasket thicknesse's correct to get these 100% or you will run into trouble. I had a club member who had his pressure plate rebuilt by a leading clutch specialist some years ago, he called into my home on the way to his home, I put the pressure plate on my special fixture and guess what, if he had put it in to his car he would have had no clutch what so ever, all the fingers were way out adjustment .

Just to clear up any confusion..I got my clutch work done by Ron Fellows who has provided my clutch needs for years and done great work....

Also it appears that all is well now and I think I have it working well..It was simply a question of proper adjustment....

Everyone has an opinion...a few have the solution...

From Ken U's post "This is kinda like the guy who had this silver '53 Hornet with a spark plug apparently threaded into the Twin H intake manifold. He would come to the meets, pop the hood and wait for the inevitable questions".

    That is very funny.

Maybe that's why we didn't get any answers to our questions.

Everyone has an opinion...a few have the solution...

How can you have a solution if not told the actual facts.????

I think I've learnt my lesson with him if he carries on like that.
