1942 Hundson 212 engine distributor

Hello every one. i just completed geting my hudson supersix running. She been ideal for 40 years. When i bought the car she was in good shape for a barn find motor was free. I restored the car to a driver with brakes paint job and interior rebuilt carb, fuel pump. front end new tires ectt. This week end i get to the point to finish the turn up and make it run. She starts First try (Great) a puff of smoke a little ajust of the carb and idles like a kitten. warm up and like most 212 she ticks a little but doing great. so I take her and drive like the big boat she is. Now the problem was running about 30 she pop and died. liffted the bonnet and every thing look fine pop the distribtor cap look good so i had it brought to my home after a little diagnostics I found that you can free spin the distributor rotor. Thought well being this is a ford style slot distributor i guess it could have sherred off pulled it and it good problem is the shaft from the cam to the bottom of distributor. I have a 42 hudson factory manual and it says nothing on this part and how to replace it. was hoping that some one out there could inlighten me berfore i pull the motor. Thank you all for the help.

There is a 9/16 head bolt at the base of the shaft that goes thru a hole in the block from the right side and into a hole in the shaft housing. Remove it, and you may have to put a pipe wrench on the housing to turn it and tap the top with a hammer to loosen it to get it out.

thanks Uncle Josh the way it looks i will have to pull the engine to get this done. thanks again for the help my dad was my helper on this project until he passed last year. im still a youngster at 50 and miss his hands on with me and this old cars.....i miss my dad....

update was able to do it in the car runs like a camp again .. Thanks for all the help Josh
