Old dog and new tricks

I was out in the shop cleaning up Doc Hudson for a show. Last time out we got a nice banner that is held in place using plastic pipe. We have some stakes to hold the base in the ground but the show coming up Doc will be on cement. Not a problem, the base of the stand is perfect to place the spare tire on it to hold it in place. I remembered that I had an old dog dish hubcap like Doc has from my ole 52 race car. It would look good on the spare. When I pulled it off the wall (all my junk hangs on the shop wall for storage) it showed some stains and bad streaks. No problem that a bit of chrome cleaner would not solve--nada, ok, a bit of Dutch cleanser--again nothing. A bit of rubbing compound--nothing. On the back of the shop sink was some Limeaway. Why not give it a shot. Put some on and rubbed a bit and the hubcap looks like new. Just what Doc needs to give a little spark to the sign..... And, I learn something I never knew--limeaway to clean up old hubcaps. I think I will go try it on some bumpers....
